So had a play with this device tonight at SCENZ and really enjoyed it. VERY sharp OLED display and the augmentation is wicked.
Those looking to buy big microsd cards hold off as only 3 will be available from initial release. It takes a special Sony micro sd (re: not the usual microsd shape) that the device will only read from.
Some neat features of territorial gaming (King of the local bus stop, McD's, strip club etc). Definitely the next step for gaming but would I pay $449/$549 for it. No sorry.

It does look like a sweet piece of tech.
Too sweet I think, which of course brings with it a hefty price tag.

we (EB) are kicking in one of 3 games for preorders (uncharted, rayman or dungeon hunter), as well as a polycarb case, screen protector and vita welcome pack.
and if you go for the 3g one i believe you get wipeout from the PSN for free too

What difference is there between the 3g and wifi versions apart from the connectivity?
Want to see how much support it gets post launch before deciding whether or not it's worth getting one

the only difference is the 3g...how ever, for the offer that playstation & Vodafone have, it's pretty worth while.
3g one is $100 more than wifi, with that you get a vodafone sim with (i believe) $20 credit on it, top it up once, and you get a voucher to download wiper out 2048 (which is worth $68)
for the extra functionality + game, i reckon it's worth a punt

if your talking about vodafone, vodafone is just the preferred carrier...you can use any carriers sim

No I meant the PS Vita, have they been jailbroken so you can run custom firmware and homebrew? From Google, I can't see any clear indication that they are yet, so I'll assume not unless anyone know something to the contrary?

I don't think GoG is going to get into a conversation about hacking a product he is supposed to market/sell.
Sony wouldn't be very impressed if they were to find out he was promoting the idea of loading Homebrew considering where he works.

Oh, fair enough then. Apparently it has been compromised already and the recent 1.6 firmware release does not address the Teck4 exploit which allows unsigned code execution, although I do not think there is a CFW release yet. But then the device hasn't actually been released to the public yet has it?

Had a play with one yesterday (its who you know etc), thoughts as follows:
-Very light, maybe half the weight of my old psp yet feels just as solid
-Fast, the software works like you want it too
-Played some wipeout, alot of detail but the issue is the screen is not big enough for most of that detail to mean much
-The controls are ok, the new sticks will take some getting used to but I suspect they wont give you carpal tunnel like my old psp did, placement is excellent for my hands too
-The price can suck a bag of dicks, 500~ for the console and you will want the 3G to really make use of the unit completely.
-Unfortunately didn't get a play with the rear touch pad, could be interesting
-Has this software "Near", which will allow you to interact with other PSvita owners nearby gaining access to certain content they have discovered in game simply by being close by. I'd imagine the other capabilities of this software are vast and interesting. Basically Sony is encouraging you to carry the vita everywhere even if you dont use it.
-Uses its own set of leads/usb cables/power adaptors etc so fark all your old shit
-No more UMD...again fark all your old shit, apparently sony is planning on doing a swap out system to gain some backwards compatibility...not until they have made a bunch on the new games I'd imagine tho.
-Screen is clear but I didnt get a go outside to see if it still glares like a bitch. (Old psp was farking aweful outside contrary to the adds...)
-and finally, needs more cow bell.
also codex likes the boys.

Prices seem to be aggressive for this as well 379 or 397 for the wifi unit.
Also looks like ipad3 is a couple weeks away with all the accessories loaded in my system atm, but that's for another thread.

Ah but after seeing how dependent it was on the net being connected i'd save for another week and grab the 3g.

Picked one up, enjoying it. Great for work when things get slow (most afternoons if no calls).
Lacks a dam flashplayer so no youtube or porn on it, may have to return it.
