Discuss, or rant like a bunch of maniacs: http://www.hardocp.com/news/2011/11/01/consoles_became_lead_platform_late_in_bf3_developm ent/

What happened to the PC being the "main platform" for Battlefield 3? Apparently that changed "late in the process" and the devs switched focus to the consoles to get the game done. That kinda makes you wonder if they were just paying lip service to the PC community in the first place.

"We said originally that the PC was the lead SKU of the game, but in mid-production we switched to console as lead platform to make sure we could get all the versions done for release," Troedsson confirmed. "Our ambition at DICE is to use the power of each individual platform to get the most out of the game," he added.

Oh well, we got halfway. Game is good. Care factor zero.

People are raging about this and that but if you compare to some big releases of the last while, it's far from a failure.
It's more that the expectations were so high.

You only have to play the game for <5mins to figure out that PC wasn't the lead platform.

this

Only thing that is annoying is no demo system. Is there a spec mode? Haven't noticed one yet

I think the expectations were so high because it could have been great. To me it still is a good game, but there are so many areas for improvement (which are decision-based, not technology-restricted) where the decisions appear to have been influenced by consoles, which stops it from being a super-amazing game for me personally. The vehicles don't add enough depth to the game, it really feels like an infantry game now with vehicles tacked on, whereas in previous battlefields they were all on a fairly even scale in regards to depth/playability/enjoyment. I really can't see me spending 500+ hours in the helicopters in BF3, which is how much time I spent in them in BF2.

So yes it is a good game, but my care factor != 0 because it could have been much better.

You only had to play the beta for 10 seconds to figure it out, but congrats on making a new thread.

Yeah, there are a lot of things I would change too.
The way I see it they have tried to cater to the biggest market possible to get much needed moneys. So for us PC dudes, it has suffered a little. I don't mind, I'm just glad they finally got to making this thing.

Perhaps the second game with Frostbite 2 will be less mass market and more BF. Especially when they have sussed it out properly (the engine).

Seems the BF series has already peaked with BF2.

I don't think anyone hates BF2142. It just wasn't good enough as a stand-alone game. Seemed more like a paid modification/reskin.

Lot's of people did.

It just wasn't a lot (more) of people's cup of tea, hence the reason they went back to BF2's larger playerbase, competitions, and continued EA support (patches/expansions).

I'm going to put pen to paper and invent the best video game ever.

Wait... All I can come up with is BF2 that works properly :/

Man, what a crock.

Obviously they catered to consoles, that's probably why the 64 player and large maps have so many issues. No wonder they scaled the playable area down otherwise consoles wouldn't be able to play.

I don't hold much confidence for the B2K Maps if that was the direction they took. Most of the vets wanted was a replicated version on the new engine. I don't mind a few changes here and there, but still needs to have the same scale as the previous maps. Don't think that will happen now.

It's a fun game, but could be so much more.

Agree we have high expectations and those get higher before release as we kept putting bf2 on a pedestal...
its a good game and over time things will get fixed and changed and will be great for some time to come

Speaking of putting games on a pedestal, i remember forums filled with "Bf2 is good but not as good as 1942" threads and comments. When the next big BF release is out it will be compared to to BF3.

This would explain the absence of sp and coop then. It never existed on the console before so wouldn't be missed.
I'm really sore about that, I played those game modes as much as I played online.

They were just trolling us to see us ram the thing and C4 it constantly.

Tehe... got to laugh at this thread and it's comments TBH... Bf2 is was and has passed. to compare this to it is like, well comparing single player and multiplayer sex ( I know some of you wont get that analogy though) If you want BF2 just go re install it.

There are some goods and bad with this game... I got to admit I am struggling to pick it up as enthusiasm is a little low for it with workload being an ass ATM. I find the unlocks a little retarded and feel for people that buy the game in 3 months time to join the hoards of people that have had it for a while... There not going to enjoy the slaughter. I find the game feels very sluggish and unresponsive, This I hope they fix. but is other than these things a bit of fun in the evenings, will be interested to see how it scrims

PC gaming is NOT coming to a end, those console corporations just want you to think so, so you can give up and buy their shitty hardware.

Quite the number of people already own a console as well as a pc. There are quite a few people that are now buying pc's to play bf3 after playing it on their console though from my work which is interesting.

Hitreg in bf2 was alright, it'll never be perfect in any online game. Quite often it came down to the quality of server, e.g ICONZ/ga prac servers were awful, while GA pubs etc were fine.

ICONZ was really bad, it was the Hamilton of game servers.

They'll probably start inbreeding and go on the DPB again, because they're too lazy to do anything about it.

Of course i am only talking about the majority of them, some Hamiltonians are extremely awesome.

I think the biggest surprise is not that it went to the dark (moneyed) side but the fact DICE admitted it!

Still I love the game and shall be putting the hours in, certainly the best that is on offer ATM. I just hope the servers stay reasonably full and numerous for a few years yet.
