Nice! I've never even seen a propper midnight launch for any game.
Although I gave my thanks to the local EB games store manager, as I got a message from them saying that my game would be ready to pick up at midnight, with the store opening at 10pm, but then 5 minutes later got a message to say that it's ready to be picked up immediately, so I went in there at 6:30pm and picked it up, the manager had been there all day, and he was the only one there, so it looked like a long night for him.

for my shop;
360->pc->ps3
PC never preorders...but from the sounds of it across the board people did for BF3

Nice. Will there be somewhere to view/ will you be able to find out and post the official numbers? Even perhaps for first week. Not sure if they are commonly accessible or what, but would definitely be interesting to know if possible.

I would of thought pc would of outsold the others. Didn't realise how many console people there are out there that don't own a PC as well.

PC gamers have lots of different options to buy their games, I only see the ones that buy physical, and at my shop. I would LOVE to see the total breakdown in a couple of weeks though.
make no mistake though, this is a HUGE showing from the PC community from what i've seen. PC pre orders dont often break 20 unless it's a wow expansion or starcraft or something. and my store is not a big PC store at all

Goods news either way, and good work on having a big midnight release 'party', looks fun, and it's nice to see some companies/ stores do more than what is necessary.

More preorders than mw3? I just watched a mw3 trailer and by god does it look shite compared to bf3. might get it tomorrow, which ebgames do you work at?

EB's policies seem to be utterly iron clad. Seemingly very anti-competitive. I realise that it's a totally different SKU, but I tried to haggle for the Physical Warfare Pack at both EB Cuba St and Johnsonville to be even be somewhat comparable to what Dick Smith and JB Hi-Fi were charging for pre-orders of the Limited Edition ($75 and $84 respectively). Neither shop budged. I would've thought the goal at the end of the day would to try to get the sale, but obviously not.
In the end I got the LE from JB Hi-Fi for $75 (they price matched Dick Smith) with the Specact skin pack, IRL BF3 cap and IRL dogtags. IMO a much better deal than ~$99 for a steelbook and some timed exclusive weapons + attachments.
Yes, I realise that JB Hi-Fi can afford to sell things at a loss since they aren't a specialist, but isn't Gamestop's/EB's primary revenue derived from the 2nd hand market? To the switched on consumer EB just aren't competitive enough, at the end of the day.
Your recent sale where games were either ~$43 or $58 had repeatedly me shaking my head whenever I walked in to have a browse. Even at clearance prices, they were still high compared to other's in the NZ gaming market. $58 for Red Dead Redemption? No.

I wouldn't have budged either
not going to turn this into a slanging match, but our version of BF3 was exclusive, and for pre order customers. why should we price match a cheaper, lesser product? the day one unlocks are worth something, or they're not....that's your call.
we went to the effort of having a midnight release at all stores AND extending our 1st day hours - there is a cost to that. and for the customer, there is a value to that.
....so you travelled half of wellington to save $10 ~ $15??

good for you, fact is JB's game dept has NEVER made money, nor has their whole NZ operation in the four years they have been open. I'm not going to run my business like that

specialist store....with a price match policy...and with cheaper pre owned versions. you have options....always options

^^ this is unfortunately the general way Kiwi's expect a business to operate. discounted to the hilt and no money made for the operator because they graced you with there presence. good on ya for sticking to ya guns GOG. we got ours from EB up here as well.

Why didn't you do that in the first place?
God I'd hate to work with self-important retail customers.
Customers are not always right.

At the RSA, which was where I spent my time between paying at ten, and picking up at 12.
