Hey guys, for those who like to set their FOV higher or lower in game just thought i'll let you know I have found a way to change FOV, it won't let you do it in game but if you goto C:\Users\.\Documents\Battlefield 3 Open Beta\settings\PROF_SAVE_body and open with Hex editor find Fieldofview and change it to what you like. i have set mine to 82.
Note: do not use notepad to open file as this will corrupt the file and game will not launch. If this happens just delete the file and new one will appear when you load next game minus all video/key/audio settings. I used this program here http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm

Any screenshot comparisons? or is it that much better on a different FOV (I'm going to assume 85 or so) that I have to change it NOAW.

Was about to go in game to take some screenshots but a quick google found this.

Looking at this I might drop from 90 back to 85.

With a game where shots are often coming from relatively far away, I don't see why you would want a higher fov...

Getting flanked in the subway because you didnt see the guy on your side, getting hit protecting M-Comm, flag because they came at an angle and you couldnt see them. 70 is far to narrow, especially with all the scopes and addons you have for weapons range shouldn't be an issue when changing your FOV slightly.

When ever I open this file with Notepad++ I get a lot of 'null' all over the place. never had this problem before with NP++.

Yep but you can still work through the code.
Look for aim-assist too and set it to 0, should be above or below 'enlighten'

EDIT: Right click the image and click 'view image'
Am I meant to just add in what FOV I want after the Nul? Or?

You should've seen a number 70.000000 and just change it to 90.00000 ( or what ever). And Golden, its Notepad++.

Hmm, maybe I will re install NP++, or delete the file and see if that changes anything.

Just reset mine to 60, not so many worries about flankers with eyefinity but you don't get the minimap or ammo/mag count - hopefully its a beta thing

Hmm, just re installed NP++ and deleted the PROF_SAVE_BODY file and still get nothing. Hmm, might try the program in the OP.
That's got me working.

Honestly I can't comment because it was in the time between a 5850 and a 6970. Apparently turning off the aim assist stops a bit of bouncing around the map.

confirm you get the mini map with 60 and multi-mon? And did you try any higher, e.g. 65?

Isn't 90 only good for 16:10 screens?
I find 80~85 for 16:9 better.
Zerulas
4th October 2011, 11:33 PM
Yeah the game uses vertical fov, so 70-80 is good for 16:9, or 80-90 on a 16:10 screen to achieve the same horizontal fov.
