Only ~$53 NZD. AFAIK they email you an origin key and that's how you download the game.

Just set your country when buying it to the USA and pick a state that doesn't have sales tax (Alaska I'm looking at you!).

But why should we be expected to pay $90 NZD to download it through Origin when people in the USA pay the equivalent of $53 NZD? After all we are just downloading the game, there are no extra overheads like shipping etc.

Plus money saved on the game is money towards a new video card !

I agree that $90NZD for a digital copy is rather ridiculous in comparison to retail copies. I've always had a chip on my shoulder about some of the prices that Steam ask for.

I'm referring to some methods people go to to get absolute rock bottom prices for a game that they show so much "love" for.

"OMG I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS GAME, IT'S GOING TO BE INCREDIBLE but I'm going to spend 3 weeks shopping around and price matching and possibly importing in order to get the cheapest price imaginable."

Intel just increased their pricing this week on CPUs. As did other manufacturers for hardware other than CPUs. Pricing doesn't always come down, and the exchange rate has moved significantly recently.

Saving $30-40 on something can be a lot for some people, think of new families with a mortgage and plenty of bills, also students on a tight budget. Saving a little on each item purchased can really add. Not everyone in this world is loaded with cash, single and stuff all bills to pay.

If you're a family on a tight budget, or a student who is poor then buying video games is not for you.

Way to completely miss the point. A tight budget doesn't mean no budget at all, which is exactly why people will look for a decent saving.

Emrico1

That's all true but most of the time it's just people who want to boast 'i gt it 4 60 huk lol' as some kind of badge of honour.
Mind you, they spend hours hunting that small saving, tightwads... I'd rather just pay the extra, get it from a good supplier, and not have issues or muck around.

On larger items maybe but for $30 pffft.

Possibly, but I'd put it down to your error in communication.

You are making an argument that saving money is a good thing. Especially for those on tight budgets. This is correct. However you have completely taken the subject out of it's current context; and the context is purchasing video games at a bargain bin price, specifically a video game that many are happy to voice that they share a strong connection to.

You can protest until you're blue in the face that getting the cheapest price for an 'item' is sought after. I don't disagree with you but I will tell you it's irrelevant to what I'm trying to work out, and that is: The amount of support and dedication that people will pour into a game and then turn around and do their damnedest to find the very cheapest price.

Which is what? An extremely small percentage of the NZ community by the looks of it. How many people have actually posted in this thread saying they will be buying it from here or another cheap source.

Still you are missing the point, Family / bills > paying an extra $30 for a game you enjoy playing, obviously there will be people who just look for a bargain for no other reason to brag about getting a cheap deal, but thats not everyone. I'm not taking anything out of context, just pointing out the reasons why some people will look for a cheaper deal. But you can pretend these people don't exist and paying full price for a game you enjoy is more important.

Just so you know I pre-ordered my copy from Playtech long ago.

You wondered why people shop around, I thought it was obvious and put up some simple reasons. Argue all you wan't but its a fact of life, a lot of people live on a tight budget with only a small margin left for things they enjoy.

$60-80 spent on a video game that I will play for 6+ months hell 12 months+ is VERY good return on my investment.

First off, stop making this discussion about you. I'm lost as to why you have.

I wasn't wondering why people shop around. It's pretty obvious why they do.

I was after a philosophical debate about the emotional reasoning for buying a video game at the very cheapest price possible, that has such a strong following. This comes from my train of thought that if I am going to be truly getting something out of it that holds any value then saving a few dollars isn't worth the hassle.

And if you're so strapped for cash that the only way to afford the game is to get the very cheapest price then it indicates to me that your money should be spent on better things.

Perhaps I'm being too sensible.

BF3 has been known about for a while, if you can afford broadband, a rig that is even capable of running the game, then you should of been able to squander away $5/week since we have known prices to be able to afford it.

Lets put it this way, I save up the $90 at $5/week cos I really want it. It's not breaking my balls and not fucking my already tight budget. Release day comes FUCK YEAH BF3!!!
Hold on, I can get it for $30 cheaper! sweeeet I can buy the game and a 15 pack of stella to enjoy my weekend playing this game I saved for. DOUBLE FUCK YEAH!

At the end of the day if I can save 10%, 20% whatever, I will try to take advantage of it (if not a major pain in the ass!). Call me cheap, I don't give a fuck, I call it living within my limits and getting bang for buck.

You clearly don't seem to have any understanding of what a budget is at all, some people only have a small margin in each pay packet for things they enjoy. I never once said anything about someone being strapped for cash I simply mentioned a tight budget, which obviously you have no clue about. Ever thought that because someone is looking for a cheap deal on a game, its not the only thing they look for cheap deals on to save money.

You do seem to fail to understand what a budget means, you look at it as having to budget for every little thing whilst having 0 money left over after your pay. Just so you know a budget can have a little extra on the side for savings and other stuff. Games been in the making and has been available for pre-order for a long time, putting away even $5 a week when pre-orders first became available and with the cheaper prices that some people are looking for, it makes it attainable for those even on a tight budget. Maybe you could of done the same.

I clearly said that I don't understand it. I wasn't attacking anyone for it.

I made the comment after seeing threads and countless posts of people being so inextricably excited for the game (which is awesome to see) only to then see people clambering for the cheapest price. I made the assumption that people were fine with paying a reasonable price for something they enjoyed so much.

I have expressed no such hype for the game (whilst I am keen for it), I was fine with canceling my order for it. Because the $99 I had set aside for it now has to be used for something else.

DLC should be much cheaper than what Steam and Origin are peddling games for.

You can't tell me that (on average) saving $10 per game is reflective of 0 shipping costs, 0 physical content costs (manual printing, box art, discs etc) and all other costs that are inherent with selling something that sits on a shelf. There are costs still involved (server payment etc for those who host the DLC) but I expect digital copies to be much cheaper than they are.

As we all know times are hard, But it works both ways.

I personally bought mine from Playtech to support our local store.

Lets face it. They do support us in many ways. Good prices ( for a brick & mortar store )

Only ~$53 NZD. AFAIK they email you an origin key and that's how you download the game.

Just set your country when buying it to the USA and pick a state that doesn't have sales tax (Alaska I'm looking at you!).

Pre-loading now. Went through all good :)

Can't complain at BF3 for $54. Hopefully we can play it on the 25th like America too!

Actually I was at PT on Thursday and asked the guy when they would be closing. He said there was no specific time, just that they would close once all orders had been picked up, and going off the numbers of pre-sales they had, they would be there for a while.

TLDR - PT have not said a time they will be closing.

Just an FYI, I'll be at Playtech on Wednesday night helping out given the number of pre-orders, and given the number of GC's who have ordered from them.

Imma start a thread to let people know the deets later tonight, but I just wanted to let you know that the plan is to stay open for as long as possible. Playtech has a significant number of pre-orders, and without giving out exact details, it's blown away Black Ops which was the previous best pre-order seller. I'd say based on the pre-orders, and % of people who are keen to get the game ASAP, they'll be open until around 1-1:30am at best, and likely to be around 2am.

so when are out of towners being sent from PT?

Tomorrow for South Island, else Wednesday by urgent courier. And rest of country will be Wednesday morning courier which means they will arrive next morning for most non-useless local couriers.

That's AFAIK.

Apparently MW3's graphics match, and it's sound outpaces BF3's - you heard it on IGN first folks:

That's such subjective bollocks. As if they went and compared the two, they'd realise that MW2 would not compare a fucking penny near the BF3 benchmark. It's like using a CoD4 benchmark program on your system and then saying that it's better than some other prick's who uses a Crysis benchmark and scores less than yours.

It's obvious that IGN got a few pennies in an envelope to post that sh't and is a reason why I just don't trust review sites like that any more.

Nah, it was a step-ladder. You don't have the dexterity to make it up a full sized ladder before tumbling off it.

I make my own ladders.

Out of old wood from an old fence, re-used nails that I've bent back into shape and a bit of PVA glue.

Rustic charm.
