View Full Version : WTF?! No ingame server browser

Am I reading this correct, everytime you want to swap a server (something I did about 5 or 6 times last night with BC2) you have to shut down the game, go to the BF3facebookything web page and then go from there?
That cannot be right, that is almost as bad as no server browser at all... and consoles get server browser. SO WRONG!

Mmm.. as annoying as it seems.. the sheer goodness of this game overwhelms all feelings of "aww fuck.. no server browser?!"

Why change? Everything up to now on BF3 news has been great for the ability to choose a variety of options.
Heaps of choice re weapons, unlocks, vehicles and upgrades. TICK
LAV AA for shooting down those pesky sky jockeys. :) DOUBLE TICK
Now take away the ability to "quickly" choose where you want to play? FAIL
Anyone got a direct line to the asshole in the corner cubicle that made this %&%$^g decision. Because Doctor Fuzzel's wants to remove this guys ball's.

Game is still going to be awesome and still going to ruin my social/married life.
BUT this is a huge FAIL. As is the Origin thing IMO. But oh well.

Lol, alpha players confirmed that when you play you have to go to the battlelog site, choose a server which launched origin, validates and then finally launches bf3.

They could do it like steam, where the server browser is built into steam/origin, where you have the option to find a server from that, or look for one ingame. Maybe an overlay like with steam so you can find different servers?

You mean 'like Origin' ;)

How about the feelings of, everyime you want to change a browser- exiting the game, going to a website, searching/using favourites on web site, launching the game again, going through all the fucken intro crap, (maybe logging in again), getting to server?
If it is well done, i.e. very fast and no intro crap just straight into loading map from web page, then that is not so bad, but if not it could be a real PitA

Surely that's why they have implemented a browser into origin so you can do it from in game overlay.

"While this new piece of news certainly isn’t a good thing, It’s not exactly what you think when you hear the headline. When you run the BF3 executable, a web browser opens up with Battlelog. From there, you use the web-based server browser to pick a game. A magnet link will open BF3 and it will start loading the game.
So, in all it’s a lot like browser-based games such as Quake Live. Seems like a bad move in terms of UI design, though, as it would have been easy enough to have a browser displaying the Battlelog HTML built into BF3, so there is no window change/alt-tab needed to get playing.
I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if they go back on this decision, as while it seems reasonable when you read more about it it sure does make for a bad headline."
This a comment from the article on bf3blog. If this is true, it might not be as bad as it sounds

It takes about as long to load the welcome screen of BC2 as it does to load a map. So will we effectively be loading from scratch every time we pick a new server, or can the client already be open?

After two phone calls to Dice in Switzerland and some stern words exchanged. I established which dip shit was responsible for this FUBAR.
Actually this little gem has had is origins from deep in the EA bunker. Oh hold the phone, "what was that Fuzzel's?"
"You solved the problem already? Right so you launched a TN (Tactical Nuke) to solve the situation. YOU DID WHAT!
One small problem you know that EA will be incinerated in a Hellish fireball, Right.
And that all BF players will be crying in thier milk right now
NO great loss you say!"
Tiddlywinks anyone?

Gah I hope not, if your quitting the game entirely and restarting to change servers wont that make memory leaks even more troublesome if they exist.

Gotta say, it's a weird call. But I'll withhold judgement until I've tried it. Note this tweet from demize in answer to someone suggesting they'll have to alt-tab out of the game for the browser to switch servers:
@Demize99 Alan Kertz
@nforceSC Don't alt tab, just shut it down. It starts up REAL fast.

There will be no splash/intro screens you have to watch like BC2. I think doing it through a web browser will be faster and we just need to wait and see instead of jumping to conclusions and throwing toys around.

The thing is, hopefully IF is it shithouse, then 99% of beta players will complain; Maybe it will get added then.

That's what a beta is for and I will try to find every bug/annoyance I can.

I think its not a bad idea TBH, it means any updates that need to get done to the server browser etc are simply a web page rather than having multiple patches to try and fix what seems to be continuously faulty versions of a browser window... I think the time you spend waiting for the stats to update in game etc will take longer than reloading. especially with the event of SSD drives. No biggie as long as it all works and is easily changed for what players want.
My wife is going through a stage of change is scary... sounds like some of you are too :P
