View Full Version : Best store (physical or online) to pre-order?
GrumpyHitler

Hey, so as you know it isn't looking like Steam will be able to provide BF3 for us;
So I was wondering the best store to pre-order it from.
I was thinking Playtech but I've heard good things about Mightyape, don't really want to purchase it from Ea origins...
Any other ideas?
any bad experiences with mightyape?
Thanks
*Gah hard copy! that'll be my first hard copy game since crysis

I've preordered through EB Games. I suppose it will come down to whether there is any price variation across stores, to which one will get it to you first :D

Mightyape ship it so it arrives 7am on the release day, EBgames you can often pick it up at midnight and playtech you just get it whenever IME

Do you only get the Physical Warfare DLC if you buy the Physical Warfare Pack (which is around $120 iirc?)
Does the $99 Limited Edition from EB offer anything over the $89 LE from MightyApe/Playtech?

A friend of mine asked his local EB about the differences between versions and they weren't sure, so I told him to give EB Johnsonville a call and they might know.
They weren't sure but got back to him and said the Physical Warfare Pack was $120. But now looking on the site its only $99.99
So is there a further pack that costs $120 with extra things?

You can keep your midnight / 7am releases. Ea will always look after EA customers first. (and its only $90 for preorder)

Ok, so the deal with EB Games pre-order if you make it online is;
The option to pick it up in store instead of having it shipped out was never available (I thought I remember avoiding any shipping options). It defaults to shipping because that's all is available.
Apparently the option to pick it up in store when pre-ordering online is going live tomorrow. If you --like me-- have already pre-ordered online and are stuck with having it shipped out then you are able to (as suggested by Ghost) to call 0800 EB Games. They'll be able to cancel your pre-order and re-do it with the option of picking it up in store.

Wouldn't waste my time getting hardware from MA, they are only really good for games and dvds. For hardware I order the majority from Playtech and the odd bit from Ascent.
I have had issues before with the courier company Playtech uses, they are fairly useless at next day delivery. So I was always planning on buying from it MA.

fuck off dude, seriously, just climb off my nuts.
I don't "advertise" - people want to know about something , I'll tell them because I have that info. I'm not doing sales, I'm just getting info out there - people here can preorder or buy from who ever they like, no skin off my nose. but I like to think I am a valuable source of info for everyone here, especially since I work for the biggest games retailer in NZ, people are coming to me for info all the time, so some here appreciate it.
It's clear you either dont like me, or EB, even going as far as to drag arsey into something that wasn't an issue for him by firing complaints around. just drop it.
you pretend that you're concerned that me mentioning and EB deal every once in a while is going to end up with playtech pulling their support? I send customers to both playtech AND the ON3 servers, I support this org as much as anyone does.
my initial comment was based over the fact that someone on these forums took playtechs excellent offer, knowing that they are a sponsor & supporter of ON3, and did a pricematch with a non supporting e-retailer. I thought that was shitty, said so, and you got confused because I wasn't saying something about EB & blew a gasket

Such a dickhead move, they fail to mention that the 'restrictions' are actually beneficial to the users, not so much the retailer. Instead they have picked up the attitude that if it doesn't suit them it doesn't suit anyone. Too hard backet scenario.

Not sure why steam users are kicking up such a stink, is it really that much of an issue to just buy a hardcopy of the game if they are against using another digital source? People saying shit like "I cant believe I'm saying this but looks like I'm getting MW3" are fucking idiots. This change takes nothing away from the game, and if you believe otherwise clearly you were never that interested in the actual game in the first place.

I can understand why people are getting upset.
Having 2 separate game libraries is a hassle and a lot of people prefer their games via digital distribution.
If I was a fan of DD - having to have 2 separate programs that governed my gaming library would be a royal pain in the dickhole.

So people will sacrifice what could potentially be the game of the year because it can't be sourced on steam, and a hard copy well thats just annoying to have.......Anyone saying they wont be buying the game for that reason alone is just looking for something to have a bitch about and most likely wasn't that interested in the game in the first place.

So he buys it from somewhere in Auckland, and has it shipped to him (no doubt to his work address, hilariously), when he could just grab one off the shelf?
Just sounds silly, and tbh I doubt that Playtech are making a mint off this game selling it at that price.

I was just highlighting it in case you missed it (as your post suggested to me that you had). Personally i think there are a lot of massive over-reactions going on in this thread. Not that it matters, but I've preordered with EB now and in the past is for the simple fact that I can pay $10 a week, rather than laying down the full purchase price (at the time of my preorder and previous preorders I was a student and couldn't afford to drop $100 on something I won't see for a couple of months)

I disagree with you on this 5loth. You're making an all or nothing argument out of a decision that usually has a lot of factors. Of course GoG wouldn't buy the game from Playtech, because he gets it where he works.
GoG had a go at someone for bragging on a Playtech sponsored forum that they took the great deal Playtech offered and got a competitor to price match. It appeared mildly dickish behaviour to me, albeit on a minor scale, but worthy of comment. Are you equating that behaviour with GG choosing to publicly support a competitor on their forums, which seems not at all dickish, to me anyway.

Not a bit deal. The only downside of this is - Your BF3 Account will not be linked to your steam account / awards/ achievements / no aliasing, and slightly easier to backup the game. etc...
This wont change the BF experience we've had with it's predecessors. Although EA "master account server is down" did suck the big one. Could be a reason why they didn't want to split accounts via Steam...? Maybe I'm wrong...

Is it opposite day today? BF3 would have been linked the same way bc2 was, you played it from steam but after launching it was no different to retail apart from digital distribution and recording hours of play. There were no steam achievements regardless. Your steam name did not influence the fuckton of soldiers you could create anyway. Steam backups are far easier to do than other ways unless that's what you're meaning.

Valve is right to say 'you have to provide all the DLC for your game through our store so we can get a cut of sales or we won't sell your game at all on our store'?

No, I can read luckily. The fact is he had a go at someone for not doing something that he isn't doing himself (TBC). Price isn't an issue apparently, so neither should convenience when it comes to being able to support Playtech.
Thats the response sloth.
When someone is accused wrongly of doing something you can expect a response....stacks comments were unjustified and not because i am a clan member, but because there is no proof of ghost activly selling anything from eb and underminning ON3 or playtech but only answering questions and providing info , and its no differernt as other people here are posting the price and places they are getting the game from also.
I suspect most people here support ON3 and playtech and defend it which is great.
I recently bought much of my new pc from playtech and I could probably get most of the items far cheaper through work with our vendor discounts and buying power.
I choose to support playtech, computer lounge , mighty ape (who iam getting bf3 through) and dove as they have provided great service and great support over the years and will continue to do so and are local companies.
I am not got stop providing info about these companies on these boards if its relavent or helpful because it might be seen by a couple as against PLaytech being a sponsor of ON3.
For some reason some people have knickers in a knot ....maybe they should provide proof before commenting.
I am sure playtech are not worried about this info as they know the PC community is very much like this.
