View Full Version : Crysis 2 Multiplayer, Worth the 80 bucks?

Just curious, I'm really enjoying the graphics and the story line but is it really worth forking out $80 for multiplayer?
I've heard from some people it's similar to Modern Warfare 2 in the teamwork side of things (as in not much at all)
Any opinions?

I didn't like it. Doesn't look like a game which has an enjoyable multiplayer. A lot of ramboing around etc, so unless that's the kind of game you like, there are better multiplayers around. For its SP, it looks pretty fun.

Yeah, thats a similar response to what I got from other players. if you've bought the game would you be willing to sell me your multi player key? I don't have the cash to buy the whole game but I would like to test out the multiplayer.

No I didn't buy it, I just played it during the beta. Maybe the experience has changed once the game went retail, but just the style of game seems to suggest ramboing (i mean the first games SP was all about you doing solo runs into enemy bases, doesn't seem like a game style which encourages teamwork).

Yeah, it's very similar to Call of Duty multiplayer, just with the nanosuit abilities being the difference. Enjoyable enough if you like that, but a bit too much of the same old stuff for me.

I actually bought it.
I will easily get my monies worth out of multi. Not seeing that much ramboing either .A little teamwork going on but most modes are quick fire so its not that way inclined anyway. Plenty of PC guys putting the boot in and IMO its not justified at all.Game play is good.Hackers here and there but same as most FPS. It is quick paced so if thats not your thing don't go near it. Oh and it looks pretty despite no DX11.All the fucking whinging over that is not justified either apart from certain "promises" that were made.

^agreed.
Have only been playing the single player and so far it is pretty damn good (for SP).
The AI is pretty good and there are some good moments of pressure. Feels like you are predator in the city tbh. Love the stealth kill and jump.
Graphics are really slick, gameplay is good. Anyone hating on this is really just a keyboard warrior, same old pretentious critics with nothing more to qualify their comments than another game has some aspect that is better.

Really nice to hear some positivity. The "Old Boys Club" spoil a lot of titles for people in my opinion. Unfortunately, I'll miss this boat due to the recession.

I too am really enjoying the SP, just as gripping as the original for game play although I cant see how number 2 will manage to surprise me as the first one did with the whole alien thing... very pretty graphics wise. MP is good for a quick shoot em and run but no where near as good as BC2V

SP is beginning to boil my blood.
I don't know why moronic game developers employ retarded game save features (probably because they're moronic). Crysis 2 has the same game save restrictions as Halo: Reach. It only saves when you hit a checkpoint and even at that, it's not guaranteed.
Crysis 2's save feature is diabolical. I make an assload of progress this morning, I die and I port back almost -2hrs of game play. I quit, manually load the last saved file and it's even further back than when I was loaded in this morning when I started the game from "Resume".
WTF? There seems to be no consistency and I *hate*....*HATE* games that don't give you the option to save when you want, or at least the ability to save frequently.
That and it's pretty damn buggy. Squid that die upright, then turn white as if they are still being viewed inside a 3D modeling app, AI doing loops both visually and audibly.
EDIT: NICE! And to boot, it decided to rob me of all 10,000 upgrade points which I was saving.
Epic work Crytek!

Yeah, I had that problem. I had saved up a bit of upgrade points, started playing from my last save, got through a big battle then decided to see what I could upgrade only to see I had no points at all. Even after killing a few more 'squids' and collecting their sparkly essence, I still only had 80 points.
I am enjoying single player, at least for the gameplay and scenery, but there are plenty of bugs to break the experience constantly. One time, I came out of a set piece 'cut-scene' with an invisible gun and not being able to change to any other weapon. I had to reload from the last save, which luckily was at the start of that 'cut-scene', to see my gun again. Plus, when the game tells you to look at something, if you don't look for long enough, the prompt stays on screen and you can't do anything until you move forward to break the sequence. Also, I've come across problems with any path finding when they are alerted to your presence and trying to find you, if you are stealthing around. Frequently they try to occupy the same position in time and space and the also get stuck on cover and start flailing around - and don't go near those guys while in stealth mode because they'll see you through your pathetic invisiblity.
But the one thing that annoys me more than the bugs: NPC's having a conversation with a mute protagonist.

I haven't encountered to many of the bugs. I do agree with you on the save game restrictions. Definately detracts from enjoyment of SP when you quit after two deaths because you go back 29 mins to the start of the level. Where is the f5 quick save?

Agreed. I wanted to hear my voice just once, just to say "yeah, I do talk, it's not OK to play out a game without one word".
I don't know how they managed it, but at the end, the voice acting came so out of sync it hindered my overall experience. For some reason it was like a movie slowly coming undone and getting worse and worse with the audio/video coming out of sync.
The gameplay is great, and I do still feel I got my money's worth and will be replaying it once I get a better machine.

^ hah, I never noticed that he never replies!
It is a bit childish and dramatic but, storyline has never really been my thing.
I'm just hoping I don't get that save bug... Fuck that

Bought it, like it.
NP with audio or video glitches but did have a problem with the nano collecting at one point. After a couple more save points they just reappeared.
Liking the MP as well.
Once you get your head around the maps, which are an interesting mix of corner/urban to lighthouse for the snipers out there, the game types (TDM, DM, CTR (capture the relay) extraction (Steal the data) and crashsite (Take and hold the alein pod) have some variety from the usual around atm.
There is also the upgrade path and the rank up aspects for those who enjoy that.
Overall an interesting mix.

Another beef ...
Fuck you and your quick time events. Why do developers feel they need to find some way to squeeze in a "Press X to do this" in their FPS now? And how do Crytek implement it? By making you do it to make the protagonist crawl around after he's been knocked on his arse a couple of times. Oh, except for once near the end where they throw one in while they're playing out the end of level and if you're not ready for it you die and have to start from back at the last checkpoint.
Fuck you right in the ear.

wtf happened to Nomad
I was thinking that too.
And Psycho...
I've finished SP and the story wasn't too bad, action was pretty good too. I'm normally an assault focused FPS player, but found this game was better for the more stealth minded.
Only real issue I had was, again, with the damn save points. This is 2011, not 1990's PS1 game!

Should they have delayed the game instead of releasing it as a console port, kind of ruined their reputation doing it this way.

I am pleased that there will be a Dx11 patch but it already looks pretty spectacular as is.

Agreed. They should have just been more upfront about what was happening and why.

Mmm there is also a problem that on a multi monitor set up the HUD is not on the centre screen (all the way out on the edge) in SP. At least MP it is on the centre screen, but something I would want fixed before I got it.

Good single player, a bit longer than it needed to be. Was exciting around the middle but got a little boring.
How about the optimus prime voice 'I am Alcatraz' at the end. A little bad, but hey. One of the better SPs I have played.
So, as soon as On3 has multi I'll be in there...

Sigh most of the day is gone and still no patch. Not sure what time line those Cry boys are on.
You can get a head start by DLing the Dx11 and Texture pack from here - http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=203651
Dont be fooled by the 5.7Gb download size. Hi Res textures are 1.7gb and DX11 is 546 mb

If you have 64 bit and DX 11 card you can run both. Need them to release the f'n 1.9 patch to use them though. I have no patience.
