Hopefully. I think with the overheat they're looking to get away from HUD indicators, so maybe that might be a part of it. I thought the overheating indications in BC2 were too subtle though, for beginners anyway.

Ahhhhh right... one frag. I think you might be confusing this game for CoD where there are no vehicles. In the BF series there are vehicles and a frag will simply bounce off. Or a chopper where you can't really throw that high. And OMG when bombers get introduced and they still have those choke points *shudders*. Not only that each side of most choke points are open and snipers love staying back where your nade can't reach.
So your advice to throw a nade will not solve bad map design.

Ok, I'm going to try and explain this as best as I can why I wouldn't want so many choke points like BC2 have (not the new maps, they're good)
BF2 did not have that many choke points and you could approach any flag from multiple directions from multiple spawn points. This was great as it wasn't some big cluster fuck nade throwing competition. You could use very basic tactics and flank your opponents forcing the other team to draw people off the 'frontline'. Sharqi and going for the TV station is a prime example. The only occasions where this didn't work was when one team was stacked with clan mates or high ranked players.
A chopper isn't part of the choke point, but it can certainly spam one with it's guns at range. your 1 nade trick won't work against something 500m away blasting the area with a 30mm.
I can understand why they designed the maps this way. To increase the action around single points but also to maybe steal over some CoD players that used to love that kind of close high paced chaos. I do not want that all the time. I like prefer squading up with 5 people on VOIP and attacking backflags and being a pain in the ass for the enemy, not running around throwing down ammo packs for a bunch of nade chuckers.

He may say that, but pub server play is not an ideal world. Choek points encourage static play style. A tactic never used may as well not be there.

Yeah there is a counter for everything. But like Dr Woochu says with pub play it's very difficult to counter it with a coordinated attack, we are just a bunch of randoms afterall. Maybe with a good version of VOIP this might change.
Another thing some of those counters are difficult to do. Shoot down a chopper with a rocket perhaps dart it up/flares/dart it again. Not sure about you but I find it very difficult to dart a moving target 500m away.

Twas a carbine, but I don't think it's that different now. Wookie has access to battle rifles, shotguns, and an SMG.

They can't do anything about the wookie class. It would turn people away from the game if they limit numbers allowed per match. Just look at how many snipers each team would have in an average game - 40-50%? sometime more.
They weren't that popular due to the hit reg in Bf2, but now (and he's the thing that pisses me off about them) When you're an attacker on rush mode you have all these snipers sitting up on the hills not doing a fuckin thing to arm the bomb. So normally its just a few rambos attacking against the entire enemy team.
We need a commander mode with the UAV and scan so the commander can spot those cowardly snipers hiding in the hills not helping at all.

IMO the Sniper class should be removed and replaced with a Designated Marksman kit that uses a a high calibre/ heavy recoil rifle like the M1A SOCOM /SVD/ accurized M15 w/10x scope and Bino's. Such a kit might actually be an asset to a squad giving defenders something to worry about while the rest of the squad tries a flanking attack on a flag etc.

I don't anymore but even when playing conquest and the enemy have capped all the flags while your team has created a nice circle around the edges of the map.
OMG snipers why are they so popular?! If only they knew how much fun it is to get right in the middle of all the fights. adrenaline rushing, chaos, running and ducking for cover... ahhh good times.
I blame all those sniper movies and call of duty.

I hope BF3 shows caps/defends or plants/defuses on the scoreboard like Black Ops did. If Dice add little incentives like that (along with higher xp for objectives etc) and add voip, a lot of the hangbacks will go away. There will always be that one wookie on the hill though

I don't find the 2nd that bad, compared to the 3rd and 4th. It's even worse on conquest..

Never found it dull with a decent number of players on it + always tried to plan ahead so i didn't have to spend to much time waiting around, totally enjoyed the heli armour infantry combat even tho the latter tended to not happen as much as other maps, if anything the only thing i hated was when the other team had total domination of the air, but even then taking back mecs base was intense fun when one pulled it off .

I like maps like mashy where the flags are set in a square formation, At anytime you could choose between 2-3 flags to attack next, and could circle around them enemy.

I loved 16p Kubra, didn't play the 64p version too much. Really disliked some of the big 64p maps like Zatar, just felt like I was constantly being bombed the shit out of by jets/choppers.
Is there any word on whether BF3 is copying BF2 in the way it resized maps according to player size? I generally always preferred the close combat of the 16p or 32p maps in BF2 with a few exceptions like Karkand, Sharqi, Mashuur etc on 64p.

I think I had the most fun on wake even though I can't stand flying those jets and can only really pilot a blackhawk. Always enjoyed Oman, mashy, sharqi, dalian plant
the others were ok but once pilots started getting a shit load better my lifespan on the ground was drastically shortened, stingers were not effective at all against a good pilot. They need to give the engineers something that can take out pilots.

He'd be getting shot and stay in the same spot, then fire at another target altogether which is sure fire death on any fps. When he was on the the machine gun his target selection was horrid and sporatic.

It's a single player game.
There no point in comparing the behaviour of a single player game to a multiplayer game.
Anyway, it was clear that the position of the player was use to get a good view of the other soldiers, like the rooftop for example. As to show off the character animation.

I play SP lazy sure. But I still move through cover out of habit and especially spend a lot more time lining up the headshots because I can.
This guy was just clueless, that bit with the light MG was just painful SP or 12yo.

Oh my gosh that is awesome. I think the ending cut scenes with the city at night, the tanks and the jets just show how epicly awesome this game will be

Yea, I wasn't saying anything bad at all about the game by saying that bloke was useless at playing it, I was just insulting his less than leet skills.
Will be interesting to see what sort of a destructible environment there actually is, I mean when he shot at the sniper, it blew a huge hole in the side of the building, would be awesome if you can do that to all buildings.

Ah yes, this is another point I was meaning to raise earlier. How pathetic that all they have done for this video is sew the videos which we have already seen - together, I was hoping for some more on the air action.

I'm keen to find out if theres a commo rose, if there will be WORKING VOIP and if you could even talk between squad leaders maybe.

I reckon the VOIP will work, mostly because it is being developed on PC first. Then ported to consoles.

I think I have heard of a feature they are implementing where there will be no commander, however each Squad Leader will have certain options available, and they will also be able to speak between the other Squad Leaders - so it will be more like the SLs are mini commanders.

That has real potential. Although artillery that could be called in by 6 SL could be interesting. :D

Instead of artillery you should just be able to mark targets for aircraft. Big bonus points if the pilot bombs the area you targetted.

I never really notice mortar fire in BC2. You don't get killed by it that often

Instead of artillery you should just be able to mark targets for aircraft. Big bonus points if the pilot bombs the area you targetted.
You should have to keep it painted, instead of some magic tracer dart

Yea, well most of my BC2 days were spent in tanks or other vehicles, and bloody snipers can see you from a mile off, and yet are able to plant you with the stupid mortar things from even further away. There is one map, don't know which, however one team starts back in the closest town, and the other starts pretty well in the middle of no-where, and starts with 3 or 4 tanks, but they are impossible to get into the town as snipers park themselves up ontop of the closest rock infested hill and spend their whole time setting up mortar strikes.

except armor should have multispectral smoke to defeat laser designator and LWR to indicate general direction of the laser emitter - most modern MBTs have these defence mechanisms

The aim is to create balance, not set up so armor/air whores can find their corner to sit in and stay up all map. It's a game not rl
