From Wiki (so it must be true)
Battlefield 3 will feature the maximalist combined arms battles that made the series popular across single-player, co-operative and multiplayer modes. It will reintroduce several elements removed from the console-oriented Bad Company games, including fighter jets, the prone position, and (on PC only) 64-player battles.[2]
A new animation system will allow players to "drag fallen comrades into safety and mount weapons on almost any part of the terrain".[3] The destructible scenery of DICE's Frostbite engine will also be in use.
Locations
Maps set in Paris, Tehran and New York have been confirmed. As a whole the game will cover urban streets, metropolitan downtown areas, and open landscapes suited to vehicle combat.
I like the sound of urban combat in New york and Paris. Keen to do a "team America" and knock down the Eiffel tower with AT.
Fall is roughly Sept 21 to Dec 21 so I would read Fall 2011 as "Released in time for Xmas"
So I can hold off on a PC upgrade for another 9 or 10 months.
The good news is that the publisher has given a date (period) so it WILL be out. The bad news is it probably wont be finished when it is released- we will get the second beta with release day patch.

Just fleshing out my earlier response, proper BF titles (BF42, BFV, BF2) do not normally have a scripted single player mode - historically they tended to have single player campaigns where you played the same maps as in MP, but vs bot's etc. imho scripted single player games are for consoles.
Meat2Potatos

scripted single player games are for consoles.
Which is the biggest market for ea once all the porting to other platforms is done. (most consoles are never connected for online play)
Can't blame them for wanting to make some CoD style cash and it might be the difference in getting a BF4 or a BF2143 etc.
At least the platform it is being developed on is PC (i believe)
I think the movement and gfx in general looks good.

Single player campaigns where you play the same maps as in MP, but vs bot's, is not a single player campaign.
Imo, the single player gameplay in this videos looks awesome. Scripted gameplay is the only possible way to have a single player game, otherwise you're just playing multi-player with bots.
The Half-Life series is a great example of a single player FPS, and it was made for PC, not console.

Realism can mean getting killed by someone with an assault rifle hundreds of meters away without even seeing them, picture a 1 shot kill automatic sniper rifle in BF firing from in a bush prone.
The majority of people who rave on about wanting things to be realistic don't actually want what realism would bring you.
I like my games to near the far end of the arcade->realism scale but defiantly not all the way.

They also have quite a large team, so the guys working on the SP AI and maps and gameplay don't need to take anything away from the MP dudes.
SP will give them more sales and those expected sales cover the cost of the larger team.

They should sell both parts separately if they believe in single player that much instead of it riding on the back of the multiplayer part. Still haven't got around to playing bfbc2 single player a second time yet, lol @ playing that while the net is down(what a waste of valuable time when i could be playing something new)<yawn>@same old lame arse ai bots same old forgettable rehashed story seen a million times in every other shooter, all its and its kind have going for it is nicer eye candy=only worth buying at a greatly discounted price.

The people who can be arsed joining a forum and talking about their favorite game faults can hardly be called the majority of gamers, if that is true gaming on this planet isnt that popular.
They paid for the game they can demand whatever they damn well feel like be they right or wrong even if they cant be arsed posting proper feedback in ea forums, im sure as hell if they all just sat on their hands and say "its going to be raaad!!" as customers they would have got less attention not more.
idle chatter/bitching even tho ineffective imo it does occasionally indirectly contribute feedback into ea forums/etc, besides one doesnt have to read such deadend posts to begin with anyway, unless you want something to bitch about(be it the game or bitching about these who are bitching about it :P).

Didnt they say that they have had a team working on Forstbite 2 and BF3 for 3 years now. I would imagine most on the Multiplayer maps are done now and the SP is what they are concentrating on.
MP will be all about balance, refining and tweaking issues now.......which will prob take some time.
They need a good SP in there. PC is the lead platform and the game would sell just for the MP alone. However on console they need SP to make it viable. Not every console owner has the internet or plays online and they need a SP campaign to draw in the casual player crowd who buy games for SP finish it in 3 days and then get another game.
In the interview with the lead designer guy didn't he say that the MP was done for PC but they had to rework to cater for 24 player maps/count on console?
Big difference in 64 players and 24 players.
Will be interesting to see the first MP vids.

I'm going to disagree with your disagree. Do not care about SP at all, it's barely a blip in the overall experrience. BC2 SP was boring, why? because you're going up against computer AI. I can't be bothered with any FPS game where I have to go up against computer opponents. "I can't get no satisfaction" shooting them knowing a real person isn't behind the controls.
I hope the SP is very short and instead they spend more time tweaking the MP to perfection.

this is true. Although I could say BF2 didn't have a SP and was popular, but that was a while ago and people expect more for their $120 now.
They need to make the ranks harder to achieve as well as the unlocks and ribbons, medals. People want these acheivements and you can't allow people to get them so quickly. This should keep people in the game longer.

this is the fine line - too hard and people get annoyed/sick of the grind to get to the next rank - too easy and you have everyone running at the same level which then forces people to bore of it and find a new game

Personally I don't want the player base to be playing I'd prefer a player base playing for fun/challenge.
Then there is the whole issue of giving superior weapons as unlocks which screws people like me who don't have enough time to get all the unlocks to be on the level playing field as the uni students.
In short death to unlocks unless they are only visual unlocks that don't effect gameplay.

It's not so much OP guns, as OP gadgets. The vehicle unlocks are a prime example of fucking over new players, although I'm sure it would be argued that new players might be overwhelmed having too many options.
brucewillis2
10th March 2011, 01:57 PM
They just need to have weapon balance to suit styles not have one OP weapon that everyone is going to use. When BC2 first came out people found out very quickly what the OP weapons were and everyone used them. Now the balance is very good and you see people running around with what weapon they feel comfortable with.
Even though I tell myself I'm not much of a medal hunter I still went after those ribbons in BF2 from time to time. They just add another dimension to the game where you are able to focus on a different objective than just 'winning the game'. Medals/Ribbons add depth to a game and they should a lot of those into BF3. Also the ranks should be harder to achieve at the top end. I only made it to colonel at the end of my 2 years of BF2 (a long way off from 5-star general) and had quite a few empty spaces in my medal cabinet.
I'm not a big fan of gadgets. if BF3 put in one of those remote controlled cars like in black ops I'll be fucked off!

If it's in fashion in Europe, you can be sure it will be in fashion here within the next five to eight years.
Was a good video as far as awareness and hype go. Interesting to hear about the scope for light sources, the engine is impressing me no end. The proof will be seeing it in person I guess.
I wish all you bitter vets the best and hope BF3 can live up to your nostaligc expectations. It's really hard to live up to the love and wonder of the "old games". I'll just be happy to play on on3 servers that are full of people I know. It's why I'm here in the first place!

It will have a lot of BC2 in it. Games have moved on, and being multiported, the large titles will always have an arcade flavour. If they target at teh more hardcore gamer, then they lose too many sales.
The problem is that what makes for good public server play doesn't equal competitive play. The key, and what BC2 badly lacked , is a scrim friendly version, with useful tools, spectator and webcast support, and an easy method of modifying public server settings to more suit competitive gameplay.

Gotta get in before the 'OMG JIZZED IN MY PANTS' 'OMG JIZZED ALL OVER THE SCREEN' posts;
I don't wanna see generic city fighting, where's my vehicles (one LAV doesn't count), where's my jets, where's my massive open areas and sprawling vistas? Yes, I've seen the other video, but a 'features' trailer for the engine doesn't mean it's included in the game.
It does look nice and the destruction, however scripted, is a step up from the stuff seen in BC2. But its still not a battlefield - it's a minor infantry skirmish.
Hopefully we'll see some proper MP action as the months progress.
Edit: Too slow :(

I like it in BC2 where you go out of bounds the screen goes grey and someone yells "get back to the action" I prefer that to the CoD idea of walling off any exit to a map.
