Just starting a topic about Starcraft 2 Mods: Any recommendations or interesting variations on the SC2 game should go in here.

StarCraft 2: Chess

You can find this map/mod in the Multiplayer>Custom>Other games. Consists of a mini map of an actual Chess Board overlay combined with a Chess Style board populated by various troop types (marines for pawns, Colossus for Bishops, Queen for Queen, Mothership for King).

Players alternate their moves and the mini-map updates as the players play. Castling, Promotion and En Passant are all available.

I found it had a few critical bugs. At one point I lost control of my Queen and no player could move it (though it still counted as 'my piece' so the opponent couldnt move his King onto the squares it protected)


StarCraft 2: The Card Game

You can find this in the Multiplayer Games. It is a very fun variant and consists of a 3 v 3 'Card Game' very similar to "Magic: The Gathering" on PlayStation (if you have ever played that). It is usually full of people playing or waiting for the game to start.

This mod consists of two teams (east and west), a planetary fortress which you must protect and a 'hand' of cards. Each Planetary Fortress is separated from each other by short distance. If a team loses their fortress, they lose the game.


You gain a card every 10 minerals, gain 1 mineral a second and you spend vespene gas to summon/cast/deploy your units. Units vary in strength and type.

Units such as Ghosts/Dark Templars retain invisibility, but can be spotted by Observers or Scouts.
Units which cannot attack Air cannot attack Air in the Card Game either


There are quite a lot of rules, some very interesting strategies and it is a very relaxing and fun gamestyle to play. The only way to explain it is to actually go out and play it. Huge zergling/baneling rushes are great to watch, fun to do and hilarious to play out.

Card game sounds pretty interesting, always liked a bit of MTG. Will give it a go. TY Tiwa.

Played the card game. its ok.
Im loving nexus wars/castle fight :D

Yeah the card games ok, not much to it though when cards are randomly given to you. Not the same as being able to build you're own deck and pull off ya combo's magic styles.

Well this SC2 engine looks versatile enough that we could see some pretty amazing mods in a few months, as long as people get away from making these stupid TD mods.

Played the card game. its ok.
There was a new version released on Sunday night.

The game is now pretty much unplayable. Immortal Missile Turrets and Goliaths have wrecked the game. What happens is: You build a turret, HP boost it and it will never die and can never be targeted. They added Goliaths for some reason. Unfortunately: Goliaths now overpower the units they're meant to be 'inbetween' (Scouts & Stalkers).

It is game breaking.

There was a new version released on Sunday night
There has been a new version released which fixes the previous bug but introduces some new overpowerings/imbalances.


You can boost Ghost attack which makes them incredibly powerful for very very cheap (45 terrazine)

You can boost Nova attack (basically a cloaked ghost) which makes her ridiculously powerful, but is costly (200 terrazine)

Speed Boosted Archons make short work of everything. Not only do they move faster, they shoot faster too.

Elite Training just doesnt work. Nope. Doesnt work at all. It might affect a few units (by healing them), but is meant to affect every unit on the field, yours and your allies (like 'shields' does)

Punishing the losing team (which may be by sheer luck of the draw) by making them more liable to lose (less terrazine/more for opponent) is an idea drawn from Demon's souls bucket of stupid ideas. Coming back from a game where you have drawn 0 rares and no nukes (which I have had) is very difficult.


This means:

Immortals are basically pointless - It was bad enough that they got savaged by air or roaches/hydralisks. Now they cant even fend off sniper rounds.

Infested Terrans/Zealots cannot counter snipers - They get one hit killed by boosted ghosts. This means the only real counter is to send zerglings.

Scouts rule the skies - Cheaper than void rays, faster and more versatile, scouts are just better. Speed boosted scouts are very deadly.



However the mod is a step in the right direction. It still is fun and games are much shorter now. There are some huge addicts on it with experience scores of 100k+
