Alright, I've had a fair bit of interest for Saturday Night Fever.

So first off just the basics - Saturday Night Fever will be a weekly competition in gmod, I will set a challenge every saturday, then you will have 1 week (untill the next saturday) 2 complete a contraption; Then at 9pm you will compete with other people's contraptions.

I will judge, some competitions will be based solely on the victor of head 2 head battles, or sometimes purely on function.

It is a good idea 2 compete each week, even if you feel that you arn't good enough 2, because during the week, I will be avaliable 2 help you, and it forces you 2 learn new gmod skills, eventually making you a much better builder

Right, down 2 business.

The First Competition! (20th of November -> 28th of November) we will compete at 9.00 pm Nz time (GMT+12)

Robot Wars!

You will each build a robot (remote controlled) designed to push another robot off the arena or flipping/incapacitating it.

I will design and build the platform and put a version of it in the public dupe folders hopefull by tomorrow night, it will feature various traps for you 2 push other robots into and an open edge 2 knock robots off.

Rules:

Your Robot must not use more that 20 props, and each prop must not weigh over 100 weight. (Note! you can have a prop exceding 100 weight, but for every 100 you excede, you lose a prop from the 20 max, for example you can have a prop the weighs 400 but you can the only use 16 props. Also this can only be a single prop and it cannot be heavier than 500 (so you have 15 props maximum))

Your robot must not excede 50 constraints (check by duping it, then opening it and it will state prop and constraint count) Each weld, rope, no collide, ballsocket etc is a constraint.

Your Robot must not excede a "models/props_phx/construct/metal_wire2x2x2b.mdl" (http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb270/yamclam999/gm_flatgrass20080828.jpg) in size (I will allow it if it has extentions that can be retracted); Spawn it as you go and make sure if fits!

No turrets or Gcombat weapons or Igniters or Forcers or Nailers etc- Your Robot must push or bash the other robot off the arena from its own power.

Your Robot must be mobile, and must not use thrusters as direct power I'd prefer they use straight wheel power but if you can think of a diffrent way and it conforms 2 the rest of the rules, go for it.

Your robot CANNOT Fly or have any thrusters allowing for upwards force on your robot - you want it 2 jump? use a prop to force it up. (this doesn't mean you can't use thrusters for steering or powering a wacking arm etc)

ApplyForce is banned, though ApplyAngForce is ok, aslong as you only use it for powering wheels or spinners.

If you robot is unable to move after 10 seconds of it becoming flipped etc it will be deemed incapacitated by me and you will have lost that round.

The winner will be determined by a round robin like system, also there will be a free for all round purely for fun at the end.

That is all I can think of for now, but stay tuned, I may add or alter some of these (not significantly) but I'm sure I've forgotten something.

Your robot will be checked before the competition, once it has cleared, you will be able 2 compete.

Please add me on Steam (Grumpy Hitler) or contact me on the server if you have any questions.

I would also prefer that you build your robot on the server so I can oversee construction but you can do it elsewhere.

Questions?
Ideas?
Ideas for other Saturday Night Fever competitions/themes?

Also please post here if you are intend 2 compete

Oh and I will not be entering any competitions so I'm not biased, I'm purely judge and organiser

*****The arena is now in the public folder under "Sat Night Fever robot wars arena"

Thanks Guys

Ok just to sort out a few things I've been getting over steam:

You have all of this week 2 build the robot and then you battle on saturday night (see dates and times)

You can use wire, but it isn't required - I use the term robot loosely, i just mean a little car or what ever than you control either through numpad or wire/pod controller. The 'robot' doesn't have to be autonomous! infact it isn't supposed 2 b

by robot, I mean something like these Constrictor (Robot Wars Battles) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuB3PyjHQFE#normal)
Hypno-Disc vs RaizerBlade vs Predator (Robot Wars Battle) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqNYtI-0O2s#normal)

Also please do not be put off becasue you think you will be thrashed, I think a lot of you are about the same skill level, and the rules have been set up to limit what you can do, the robots should be pretty evenly matched.

I hope this will help people develop their gmod skills, don't take it too seriously it is supposed to be fun, so what if you get trashed? go out their and build and enjoy a friendly competition

Yeah, I guess but that is really secondary, the overall winner is the winner of the round robins, over comps may differ but robot wars is mainly just who comes out on top

After the jeep race and the custom car race could we have a Boat race for snf?
