Well, I was unimpressed at the beginning... Found it quite boring. It did pick up a bit though. The whole level when you were in the alien core without gravity waas stupid, and for an advanced physics game, they seem to have forgotten Newtons first law. I expect to travel backwards when I shoot my minigun. The last level was just frustrating. But easy when I realised that I still had a rocket launcher (3 shots to blow the hatch wtf!?) .
Overall, wasn't a bad 6 hours I spent, I did enjoy it, and I will play a sequel (I will be unhappy if there isn't a sequel... They have set it up for one), but it's not the best SP I have played, and I feel as though the NanoSuit was under-utilized, like the Maximum Speed... I only used that when I wanted to. There were no obsticles where I had to use it. I also didn't use my cloak (I was playing medium if anyone wants to know by this point, and is still reading this for some reason) after the first 2 or 3 levels. I found that jumping in a vehicle and driving past all their defenses and then shooting them in the back was more effective.
In regards to the enemies, the aliens were good, but I felt as though the KPA only had 2 soldiers, a normal soldier and a soldier with your NanoSuit. There wasn't a very big range of guns, which was annoying. I enjoy games where you get a huge selection of guns you can use. They only seemed to have the SMG, both a US & KPA rifle, a sniper, an alien and a human minigun and some massive cannon. I thought that gun you used at the end was stupid. You should have been able to override the lock and just shoot it willy nilly. And unlimited ammo!? wtf!? It looked like it shot projectiles, does it some how rebuild matter out of nothing?
Also, the VTOL level annoyed the fuck out of me. As an experienced chopper pilot in BF2, I couldn't adjust to the controls of the VTOL so I tried to change it, but no, you can't change what the mouse does. Also, the friendly VTOLs were miles ahead of me. They seemed to fly much quicker. I had no idea what I was doing. They gave no instructions, I didn't know whether tilting it forward made it go faster or anything. The entire game seemed like it was made perfect for someone who wasn't new. The game didn't really help the new people. I don't think they took into account that people won't jump into the pilots seat and instantly know how to perfectly fly the VTOL. This occured again in the Core level. I was completly stuck in a room. I came through a door and flew across the room to another door which didn't open. So I spent half an hour trying to find some sort of exit. Eventually I gave up, and took out my frustration by trying to punch the stupid harmless aliens. After killing them all, a door opened and I was left wondering why they didn't just have some sort of tip or something to tell you that you had to do that! Try making them more hostile FFS. From the looks of this forum people have been having the same problem. It is useless. They say "take as much ammo as you can" but it doesn't matter, because you run out within 5 minutes.
And now for some misc. critique:
The shotgun spread was too little.
The level with the reactor in the engine was fucking stupid, probably because I know how reactors work, but they seemed to be absorbing electricity off the reactor, which is stupid, because the reactor creates heat. Also, you were affected by radiation, in the room, but not out. Even though the glass was broken, silly.
You didn't get to use enough vehicles
You seriously have a lot of time on your hands if you are still reading this.
I seriously have a lot of time on my hands for writing this.
At the end, you fly back to the sphere, forgetting that going inside there will kill the girl.
Prophet. Wth. He still isn't dead, even after been taken by an alien (which killed everyone else it took within a minute or so). He seems dodgy. The rigging the alien weapon is stupid. The scientist say it is really hard, and that it is amazing that he managed to do all this hard out shit to make it work, which made me really suspicious of him. Why didn't they just not mention it at all?
The KPA knew all about your suit, and how to disable it, although they didn't seem to have the exact same suit as yours. Surely they shoudn't have known.
The KPA didn't kill you when they had you as hostage. Why not? They had no use for you. If they knew how to disable your suit, they should have been able to enable the vapourisation thingy and completly uh, well, vapourise you.
When all the KPA died when the alien thingy sucked out electricity from the suits (or something, I'm just guessing, I had no idea what the fuck was going on) only the main characters were left miraculousy in perfect condition. You, the general and the girl. I can understand the girl, she had no NanoSuit, but you and the general had a NanoSuit on.
It also annoyed me when killing the general that if you shot him in the head with the sniper (he didn't have a helmet on) he didn't die. You had to shoot him in the head 8 times to kill him. Last time I checked, sniping people in the forehead kills them!
The tanks were too hard to kill as infantry. You needed to shoot them with the missiles 4 times to actually kill them and you couldn't use any of your NanoSuit functions to help you (like Maximum Strength, you could grab the tracks and rip them off, atleast immobilizing the tank).
And that is all I have for now. I'll probably think of some more later. The game was good, but it would have been awesome if they incorperating some more realism and addressed the issues above. If it was awesome I wouldn't have uninstalled it after finishing it!
