Hi Hazard and other Tourny admins,

You guys have done a excellent job in organizing the tourny and most of the CoD community thank you very much.
It is a tough job sorting out a comp with a new game and u guys have done well!

My only concern is the "demo only if you want" comments that have been posted in some threads...

It is essential in any comp to record a demo, its good practice and chances are no one will ever need to review it.
But IF a clan accuses another of hacking there is no way of finding out, nothing to prove innocence or guilt, and creates a very negative feeling in the community if the situation ever happens and also stains the whole comp..

I would suggest to add the below rules:
# All players must demo their match, you do this by bringing down the console (~ key) and typing /record.

# If asked to provide your demo after the match by a Ladder Administrator and you do not have one, you face a 1 match ban and the possibility your team will forfeit the match, depending on the circumstances.

Thoughts?

Yep, second this.

Standard practise really, it doesn't just apply to cheating, if you need to look back at a teams results for whatever reaons, it's handy to have, it doesn't lag your game at all and it's not hard to do.

/record iconz1

Totally agree 100%, its not like pubs where you have uav's so its easier to spot people walling etc. Also clears up any issues with disputes, abuse in game, scores etc.

I also assume pbss will be set up as auto?

Yep demos are a must. Helps keep things clean... apprently there are hacks out so i feel it should be a ladder requirement.

I think you can add some lines to your config to make it a 1 button press to record :S Not certain though. Would be useful IMO.

Are you suggesting this is required of all players? or a representative from each clan? How big would these files be? how would they be sent to the admin for review if required?

I only ask as I had no idea you could do this. Can you specify recording location? and I assume in the example above iconz1 would be the filename?

Demos for wars only come out to be around a few mb's so they can easily be sent to any admins via msn/xfire/icq whatever. They get put in your COD4 dir under main/demos.

can it be done server side??? thats how its done in css games (often) and just makes things easier...

no server side option that I know of.

As the first round starts in a few days, it's a bit late for me to ecpect everyone to do the demo'ing. But it is a very good point and I will likely make it a requirement before the 2nd round.

no it isn't late to expect people to demo, given how simple it is

As Tick said, demo recording is essential in order for one to prove his innocence if accused of hacking/glitching/cheating during a match.

Would be good to see this rule addopted and enforced.

Quick way to bind record to a key, type the following commands in console:

/bind * record
/bind * stoprecord

* is the key you choose to bind

I use 9 for record and 0 for stoprecord.

Sounds a good idea, but what's to say someone jumps in and forgets to record legitimately (i know i would from time to time) you're saying a one match ban for forgetting something...

Plus given the time of year at present I think its far too much to expect ppl to organise this. I'm struggling to find my team due to the silly season.

Round two would be good timing.

jesus.. its amazing how difficult some people are making this sound.

afaik theres going to be a ref on the server? if so he just has to tell you to do it, and you're only going to need the demo if someone requests it due to suspicious play.

If you can remember when what date your match is on, you should be able to remember /record iconz1

Im pretty sure everyone uses vents/ts anyway so really only need 1 person on your team to remember and remind everyone on voip, even if you dont use voip its not hard to type it in game.

Our team for sof2 had been together for a few years but we always had a couple of us reminding each other that we all needed to demo, even though it was a standard thing in wars for us.

Can you make it do something like /record 'servername'0001?

Crazy_Horse

do you have to type it in each round or does it just keep recording untill you leave the server?

It records until you change server.
So you do not have to type it in each round.

Spork

Does it record what you see or is it like BF2 and records everything? If that's the case only the person with the best net/ pc would need record.

Would this sort of thing create lag? Or because it is only 10 players on the server would that not be a problem?

pyro
17th December 2007, 02:31 AM
Only records individual's, it doesnt create any lag at all, even running on minimum requirements for cod you still wouldn't receive any lag. Doesnt affect your net ping/lag either as its not sending receiving any info, its all local.

I agree, record by requirement. Even if you have no issues, the tourney organiser could do random requests of players to submit demos to ensure compliance with the rule to record.
