alright I reckon [tsw] will take pool A because I can't remember who we're playing but our coolness will overcome on the day. :bigglasse MB to go through as well.
pool B will probably see sila take top spot with ~N~ going through as well.
Those are my predictions! suck it up.

Goddam wife hacks have made me pull out of this :anger::anger: I'm sure she got tipped off by BW2 :chuckle: If only we could play these games at 0430 when she has gone to work :chuckle:
Should be some good games, but I think the hards ones will be during the pool B rounds. It will be hard pressed to make the final four in that pool.
All the best to all the teams, and the winners get a free hour each in the cupboard with the gimps.

I've had no experience with shout casting tbh, but I'm pretty confident no one will want to hear my sexy voice give you a play by play of the game :P
I'm guessing whoever is shout casting joins a team and only spectates?
If people are keen on having some of the matches shout casted, then I'm more than happy to organise what ever needs to be done, but as mentioned I have no experience with it, so you'd have to tell me what to do, etc.
L1gm3n, I'll note you down as a mic shouting person if the shout casting does happen, cheers :D

They're shoutcasting the finals matches for a NZ TF2 tournament. Though I think St3r did the one I was pointed too.
I don't know if he's the driving force behind the NZ scene, or if they have a more general interest in covering NZ events.

I have previously shoutcasted COD1 and COD2 matches via a local shoutcast server. Also facilitated shoutcasters from Gamest@h for MGL COD1 and COD2. Happy to drop a line to EJ (one of the two over for xLAN) if you want. Else it is just as easy to make contact direct via their website or even better via IRC.
They used to also ask a rep from the league/ladder to appear on their weekly show. Bit of a hoot.

If anybody is going to undertake the task, I highly recommend that the person
- have good clear comms
- have good map knowledge
- be able to call the game with the understanding that the listener cannot see what you are seeing (unless sync'd with a demo post match)
- have some idea of strats in order to be able to comment
- be funny
Otherwise if it is just mindless babble, people will tune out. EJ and Bob are a class act. Perhaps just try to secure one or both for the final or something. (at worst)

well sorry for trying to get a comp underway, I'll make sure I never do that again.
The settings were discussed with several people and I picked what I thought was the best mix of what everyone wanted.
At the time, and still, there are very limited comp configs. Yes PAM has come out, but it's still a very early BETA and I have been reading about several problems with it, they are all able to be overcome, but it requires a fair bit of effort and I simply don't have the time to get it all ironed out in the next 2 days. However I will be looking into it over the break IF time allows.
So far I have 120 players and over 40 reserve players registered for the competition with "silly and premature" settings, so I can't be doing to badly.
Thanks for your helpful input

sila has 1 tactic, and they don't even use it in game (although if you were allowed to global chat I bet they would) they basically recruit and poach all the good players until there is no real competition, this way they never really have to form an in game tactic as they win on 1 v 1
It started back about 3 years ago with battlefield 1942 just after the release of battlefield Vietnam, NZAF started these friendly scrims against sila, the first 2 or 3 games we mopped them up, no tactics, no real order, just pub play for us really, then they started to ge tough so we started formulating strats etc, back in the day when they were useful, then they started beating us.
at the same time i noticed whatever server we were in sila would join and become friendly with a player who did well against us, said player would show up a few days later in the scrim server with a sila tag, I noticed this too late and tried to nab ol' sonicflow via this method but the allure of silas recently higher status wooed him into their ranks.
they didnt seem to have much to do with vietnam....
then in bf2 they did the same thing, I remember the early bf2 games beating them by considerable amounts (i may be wrong here...bf2 is something i try to forget, they may have already had a spot on team from bf42...) either way they would've applied this to bf2 given the chance....
then I started playing bf42 again with 42U, in a practice I consistently cleaned up krisis, troy aproached me later that night to join sila for some comp, i cant remember what it was about, i think it fell through or something because we only played 1 or 2 games....
I imagine they'll do the same for cod4

Nothing new, but the consequences are always the same.
It happened in CoD2 in Aussie, all the best players created one epic team and the competitive side of the game died until the clan disbanded as they found the game to easy and other clans got bored.

From what I remember (god damn it was fucking ages ago) in the last half of BF42 $ila shat (like milky liquid diarrhea) all over NZAF.
your halves aren't equal sizes
as i remember it bfv came out at the end of the first NZDC comp, we were supose to play plus (some random aussie clan we'd never heard of) on that big laggy city map, it was the quarter final match and we stood a good chance of winning (based on numbers)...but as stated bfv came out, and rather than practice, smack talk and write a strat they all played bfv which meant we went into that match with less than a full team of players who'd lost interest in the game, needless to say we got slaughtered.
from this it was left to marine, staple nutz and I to piece together a 42 team, I think this is where we picked up primordial soup, pubic and that dude who got bitten by a spider and went mental...
we started playing $ila (south island liberation army) and I remember talking post game in vent with you fellas (which at the time was sted, TIG3R, yourself and haz) and we referred to you as "si-lah" which was aparently amazing, some how you hadn't thought of using a phonetic to call yourselves.
I guess though in NZAF we always called ourselves "N Z A F" each letter separately which is fair enough because stringing the acronym into a word such as "N'ZAF" doesn't really boost moral, kinda sounds like a sneeze.
but you simply cant say "dollar sign I L A" in normal conversation...it's too much of a mouthful (or is this the intent?)
anyway we're at the end of the life of bf42 height, and we're playing $ila on guadalcanal and that fella anubis is ripping me a new one with his shiney new tag (fuck he was twiggz (lol twiggz) uncle who use to practise with us and we'd laugh at his feeble attempts to fly, no wonder when i played the family friend card to join NZAF he told me to fook off) the lag was awful, and I still have burnt into my memory trying to run to my plane and running backwards only to look up and see anubis diving on me, carnage is in the flack trying to shoot him down but he's just as lagged as me and cant see shit, I finally got into the air and I'm banking with anubis floating on my six, then lag kicked in and he lost my tail because I had somehow a right angle turn....into the sea...ATLEAST HE DIDN'T GET A KILL!
from there we took sila seriously and they started whomping us, 2 weeks later after noticing this trend of players joining $ila I made a thread at GP forums "The 'I survived the $ila recruitment drive of 2004'" thread in which I shopped a T-shirt to say "I sivived the $ila recruitment drive of 2004" I still claim the spelling mistake was intentional but later edited the image to say "survived" as the levels of comedy were on over load as the fellas from id (holy fuck I remember playing drunk bf42 with loose, antimatter, sydog, madame poon, sig, and some guy who always went on about buckets of curdled goats cum) image spammed the thread.
the thread went through various stages of insults backwards and forwards regarding sheep iirc then we played $ila on berlin who ruthlessly nade spammed our main, to which haz made a tshirt promoting the ending score which was heavily in $ilas favour the thread was locked on the grounds that $ila said sorry or something...never understood how that worked...
then bf2 came out and we never played them in the teacup (although as much lol was had between ipt and imperium draconis, then I took the piss out of ipt2 who got all sad and cried (fuck I even had a fambaa shield beast) and we won that match on karlands) anyway we played sila after the comp on daqing oilfields and smashed them as imperium, I guess to be fair we were warming up for GA and they were cooling down off a lacklustre comp (what the fuck happened to you guys?)
then imp played GA against the aussies and shafted NZ clans, then they started to creep up the ladder and imp started to creep down....pretty soon sila was at its old games again and oga thrashed us (we had ramzi), this was the last straw for a few of us (wait...maybe they knew....if oga could beat us and we had 2x hackers....holy fuck...BELL! DID YOU KNOW?!?!?) anyway I stayed on for a few games and gave up with some stupid people given the controls of the clan and seemingly making commander calls from Uranus (or theirs)
and this post is big enough and I want to watch a sopranos episode before I go to work so if i can ever be bothered ill tell you about 42U one day.

i hope you're smart enough to not take all that seriously..
Marine approached us before CoD4 was even released, at the time
we didn't have room, but since I have stood down in the last week and
Marine was still interested obviously, it was an easy decision.
Never said anything about poaching, just stating the fact that if all the amazing players decide to make one epic team then the whole community looses. Thankfully we are no where near that stage.

plus where would the challenge be if all the best players played on the same side? they'd have nothing to do and all the fun would be lost

We don't just go recruiting willy nilly, we have our 5, and thats all we need.
I thought he left because he wanted to be in the same team as his best friend in RL soop? Thats wat he told us. Not baiting jsut trying to get my facts straight.

soop was with us before cod4 was released also, and it was after soop joined
but before cod4 was released that marine first registered his interest.

Well alienz seems to have the right idea, maybe it was you aliasing? :O
pwnd.
in an ideal world good players would b spread out in a competetion. then it would b intense. otherwise its 1 team at the top and thats just lame/boring.
