Has anyone bothered to purchase the game via steam? I was thinking sweet $49.95 US and wanted to purchase it but they insist on making me pay $88.50 AUS for it...

Did anyone bother doing this, total cost is ~$102 NZ which means it's pretty significantly cheaper to buy retail...

Steam went to far when they started locking down territories with The Orange Box(they prevented us customers registering thai/russian cdkeys because it was cheaper). Now they expect me to pay $40 more than what they charge US customers ($49.95) for the game?

No thanks, I'll be buying at retail (with a box and cheaper) thank-you...

Seems to be picking Australia based on my IP address :( (steam account doesn't make a difference). Mates on orcon can buy the US version fine, yet myself on Actrix get shown the AUS price.

If anyone you know wants to buy via steam I say do it now for the $49.95US...It's only a matter of time before NZ gets locked down prices etc

(oh, and a thread update SARS is selling me one)

I brought off steam.

I recommend never never never EVER buy any third party games (ie not made by valve/steam) off steam.

Not only was the game not available at the same time as the retail version but also this:

I pre-purchased mine and there was a pre-load option, so i pre-loaded the game only to find out when it was unlocked and available to play that steam didnt take into factor the amount of people that would pre-load the game. soooooo many people did, which caused the servers to crash and you were left with half of call of duty (around 4 gigs) and steam thinking it was the full game.

The only way to fix it was completely remove all of the CoD4 files and download the whole 7 gigs.

so after 15 gigs of my cap and 2 days of downloading I was able to play.

I mean how hard is it to calculate how many people pre-purchased the game and provide more pre-load servers?

imo they lost alot of customers (including me) due to such a retarded mistake.

Check the call of duty steam forums for more angry buyers (and alot of funny rage posts).

tis' all good now though, but use this as a future reference. Take the time to go to your local store and buy it off the shelf.

finally recieved an e-mail the other day to say it had canceled due to a wrong number or some shit, i didnt care cause id gone out and bought it retail...

i did get trackmania through steam though and it's sexy
