Slow MP Startup

Whenever i click the cod4 multiplayer exe it takes forever to start up the game. With single player it takes a few seconds but multiplayer takes 1-2minutes

anyone else had or solved this?

I reinstalled, because I thought it was a fault (taskmaster showed the programme as non responsive) - just needed patience

a fix would be great.

no, never had this problem.... did you guys buy retail?

I got mine off steam.

edit: I found out that more then one person can use the same cd key on the same server, also you dont need the disc to run the game, so hook ur friends up.

Incorrect.

Perhaps on an unranked server, but still doubtfull.

I had this problem after I tried to update punk buster, my net went all random and CoD4 MP took ages to startup, so I reset my router and the problem went away.

I think I also successfuly updated punk buster as well (the first time failed silently when I thought it succeded).

I don't know which step fixed it.

I bet it is some sort of master server negotiation crap that takes ages to time out.

I had this same problem with CoD2MP.

Never went away.

CoD4 works like a charm though. :)

I have the same problem,once i open the single player exe the cod4 picture pops up for 2 second and then the game starts up.When I click the mp exe i have to sit and look at the cod4 picture for a minute.Any fix ?

This has been the case with all the series of CoD. You don't need the CD to be able to play multi-player. In regards to the CD key, you may be able to do it on an unranked server without PB otherwise PB will kick you for "Duplicate CD Key in use".

Apart from the occasional connection problem I love how cod4 multi player loads up fast with out all the bs in between :rnr:

You can't - all the account information is store on your hard drive, so you need to back it up before reinstalls.

I was reading this in the morning thinking "Oh im glad this doesnt happen to me"
now it is taking yonks to start up, task manager says it is not responding.

If you dont believe me test it, im not sure if I tested it on a ranked server but ill try it and get back to ya'll.

Also what would be the problem or issue with letting more then one person use the same key? I dont see any problem, it doesnt make the admins job any harder, if one person fucks it up then they just ban the key like norms.

But if your gonna go all hippie and not allow this to happen on your servers let us know.

But anyway if the developers dont already know about this im sure it will get patched.
