View Full Version : Perks / Weapon Restrictions / Setup Times

Just a note on what will be used during the tournament in regards to perks, weapon restrictions and setups.

As mentioned in the main thread, perks will be disabled.
However due to a slight bug, I have to assign perks to classes.
So all classes will be given perks that are useless.
UAV Jammer - but the use of UAV's is disabled.
Eavsedrop - but VoIP will be disable
If you try to select a perk, all options are disabled, so you will not be able to change the options I have specified.

The following weapons will be disabled for the tournament:

* Grenade Launchers on all weapons.
* Stun grenades.

This is in response to feedback from everyone as well as standard layout of other COD4 comps around the globe.
This is done at the server level, so you cannot select them even if you felt like it.

There will be a 45 second "setup time" before the game starts.
This is the time you have to set up your class as you wish.
How it works is you click select class, you are given the default 5 classes:
Assault
Spec Ops
Heavy Gunner
Demolitions
Sniper

Once you click on a class you will be given the chance to select your main weapon, attachment, side arm, side arm attachment and special grenade. Once you have made your pick, click OK and you will spawn with those options. ALL weapons are available, with the exception of Grenade Launcher and Stun Grenades (these will be greyed out).

As mentioned, you have 45 seconds to do this, so make sure you know what you will be selected BEFORE the round goes live.

with the select class thing, does this mean you can only modify one class ?

or can you modify as many as time permits.

can you change classes between rounds or is it only between maps like on the pubs ?

Hazard

You can changes as many times as you like and it can be done between rounds.

Perfect!

The stun is just as exploitable as the FailTube, really cbf explaining why.

Good job Haz, looking forward to this.

So all possible weapon unlocks will be unlocked no matter what level the player is?

Sounds like decent rules, lets hope it all works smoothly ;)

what replaces perk 1 ?

Hazard
18th November 2007, 02:43 PM
At this stage, nothing. It will be empty.
If this proves to create the same bug as leaving them all empty, it will be replaced with C4 with tournament rules stating not to use the C4.
But ideally I don't want there to even be the temptation to use perks.

Why not RPGs? I haven't seen anyone bitching about them.

Hazard
18th November 2007, 03:47 PM
RPG's are a perk, this tournament is going to be run with no perks.
The ones that I have included (only due to a bug) are completely useless perks that will provide no advantage as they cannot be used.

those rules look mint... No GL, couldn't be happier. :rnr:

I've changed the setup time to 45 seconds.
This may be a long wait for some, but it gives people a chance to set up a few classes and allows for the slower clickers out there.

brilliant :) The stun grenades piss me off sooo much. And you can only really fight tubes with more tubes

Thats great Hazard. As we played ISF in a friendly COD4 scrim, was running out of time to get a different class and sometimes ended up with some random kit lol.

Something else that needs to be fixed, if the games are going to be like that what we played. the problem is the free look view after you die, with TS or other 3rd party voice program its like having your own wall hax telling you where the enemy are and or heading. Kinda good to have a good look around but can be easly exploited

thats due to how the ISF (or whatever server you're using) is setup.

the tournament servers won't be set up like that i'd say.

yeah the final config will not have spectate enabled.
It was enabled so I could bugger around with things, but it will be off completely for the tournament matches.

Unfortunately in COD4 the have not added the functionality to enable spectators to have free view mode AND limit the specating of players to team only. You can either have all on (everyone can watch everyone) or team only where spectators are stuck in one place but team mates can watch one another. Bit of a shame they took that out, but it is likely to be patched back in one day.

may i suggest using bandolier instead of c4
will there be any restrictions on the P90?

Hazard
20th November 2007, 03:04 PM
the ONLY restrictions will be the ones listed above. As mentioned in the other thread, I really don't want to dictate play. So people will have freedom to pick out the weapons they want and have as many people in that class as they want.

There will be no useable perks enabled at all, so no C4 or anything else.
The only perks that are enabled are completely useless in the competition.
UAV Jammer, but UAV's disabled - so UAV Jammer is useless.
Eavesdrop, but VoIP disabled - so Eavesdrop completely useless.

Just want to clarify on the above selecting of classes and modifying them within the 45 seconds.

- Are the "Custom Classes" going to be disabled?
- Will we only get the 5 default classes but as explained we can change within the 45 seconds like the custom classes?

Regards,

Hazard

yeah custom classes will not be available, same with all perks.
ALL weapns (bar GL and Stun grenade) will be available to ALL players.
In the 45 seconds, you select your class, then you will be given the chance to pick weapons and attachments for that class as you wish.

will selecting the weapons depend on the persons rank? say i havnt unlocked a weapon in the game because my rank isnt high enuf. will the server let me choose it?

or are all the weapons available to all ranks?

5loth

there are no ranks, all weapons are available.

Can i suggest bandolier as blight suggested as it is very easy to run out of ammo in cod.

How many people are you thinking of holding off?

Only 5 vs 5 remember, plenty of ammo

a couple of questions, forgive me if they have been asked and answered already, but just wondering what the final punkbuster config will be and also whether PAM will be used or not?

Hazard
11th December 2007, 11:28 AM
PAM will not be used at this stage.
The way the server is setup now works for the tournament and has been tested, so given the first round is in less than a week, I simply don't have the time to get another mod working and tested.

Over the holidays, IF I have time I will be looking into it and doing testing, but for now the server will be staying as is.

As for punkbuster, the server is running a rather standard punkbuster setup as recommended for COD4. I'm not allowing or disallowing anything out of the ordinary at this stage.

It would only take a day or so to test out PAM, but ok.... As for punkbuster, if not all the previous proposed settings, you should at least consider enforcing settings like minrate, min cl_maxpackets, m_pitch etc. All of which are well known to be exploited in previous quake engine games that support these settings. Oh and also "pb_sv_KickLen 0" please as pb often can kick for random stuff that you really don't want to wait 2 minutes to let a player back in rather or have a sub join. The default PB config doesn't cater for any of the above.

Brave Warrior
11th December 2007, 11:47 PM
Might actually be a good idea to leave out PAM for a wee while yet. Though one positive I see is the rule sets from the other leagues. Interesting to see what CAL/TWL and GA have in mind. Good start. _b

OK because im lazy and shizzz. CBF reading does every player have to record in each match?

Hazard

It's entirely up to you, there are not rules stating you must or must not record demos.

I think its good practice to record tournament scrims.

Just incase it gets ugly/accused of cheating/exploiting.

Brave Warrior
13th December 2007, 10:51 PM
Agreed, better get used to it. Most leagues/ladders will require it. (as they always have) Plus you'll have material for more l33t moofies Gliss :p

Brave Warrior
13th December 2007, 10:56 PM
Just on the whole "cbf reading" thing though, is it possible to please (re)consolidate all the game/server rules in one thread or post please, it's a bit disjointed going to different threads/posts to check updates. fanks. Also can you please (if not already) consider changing the deault load outs so that they don't default to a weapon/nade that is not allowed. eg. swap concussion gren for flash or smoke since concussions aren't allowed. In some scrims I've seen people forget to choose assuming they will get either a flash or smoke by default. You could argue it's their fault (which it is) or just make the minor change which equally isn't that big a deal. cheers.

Oh whoops, I miss read this before... Would you mind clarifying what is actually being allowed or disallowed? Perhaps even post the PB config so we can see please?
