View Full Version : Cod4 and general iconz lag

Yes,after doing some research,I have come to the conclusion,it's not my connection that is the problem, however it would seem that the high pings and lag is related to iconz only and xtra. I have done some in game research by asking players what their isp was that they used, and everyone with high pings said their isp is xtra.

I remember earlier this year, everyone with slingshot had the same problem with lag on all iconz servers and now it would seem it's xtra's turn. Please don't be forever =/

Just as a tester, everyone who's isp is xtra, and has high pings, please post here.(just say,"yer i'm with xtra and have high pings eg:120+ms on iconz servers")

Even better would be a tracert to www.iconz.co.nz

Check out the bf2142 forum, looks like there is an issue between xtra and iconz.

Yeah this has happened a few times over the past year or 2.
Unfortunately I think you just have to either ride it out and hope Xtra fixes it soon, or flood their helpdesk with complaints until they realise there is an issue.

or..... www.iconz.co.nz = problem solved :D

Im glad its not just me then... Im getting 170-240 ping on the iconz servers (which is just enough to be kicked on BF2) - and hard to play with on COD4. I may have to call xtra and give them a rant about how crap and cheap they are.

i get 100ping (im on xnet) seems to be fine tho, should be alot lower tho

Does CoD/iconz have ping kickers like BF2?

I have some weird bug where once every 3 or 4 rounds my ping shoots to 999 for a minute or two, haven't been kicked yet though.

Unfortunately this lag for xtra customers is outside of out control, and we cannot assist.
You can contact your service provider for assistance, or alternately, why not consider ICONZ as an ISP :D

Yeah for the last two or so days I have had about 190-220ping to all newzealand servers, not just iconz...

I get 90-100 ping to internewb, so go figure

And yes im considering changing to iconz brordband.

Yeah if you like to play on the free servers and use the forums and enjoy the community heaven forbid you might support it in some way or another! At least we could let competitor advertising in here to even up the playing field or something right(lol)??

I joined ICONZ and the next day won the $10 mill jackpot! Coincidence? I think not!

The above may or may not be true.

Well I live overseas (sort of ruins my above comments) and I get about 70-100 on ICONZ. =)

Ok, it seems pings are fixed? or is it because its late at night 12amish,

now I have 60/90 compared to 190/220

Lunatik

During around 6pm - 11pm i get around 150 - 200ping..but when midnight comes it goes below 150, and im also with xtra. So somethings up with xtra.

According to the tracert it only takes 6 hops to get from jetstream to iconz then it hits a router called ape then bounces around internally at iconz for another 4 hops before it hits the correct switch with our server on it, then the server address, Maybe someone could ask the network team to look into why it does those hops internally? and if it hinders our performance from xtra? it measured av 50ms at 3-4am. may need testing in the mid evening and peak use times.

It could be internal policy or security making it take that path but it might make a difference for the xtra users.

it is interesting the ping thing though.

my ping for iconz servers on BF2 is ~2-4
my ping for iconz servers on CS:S is ~2-4
my ping for iconz servers on COD4 is ~30-36

what is the difference? does COD4 just measure it differently?

I dont think the in-game pings are accurate, because I have had around 300 in-game and it didnt feel any more laggy then my usual 50.

^^Does the anti-lag feature have anything to do with that or higher ping?

Possibility.

Um,apparently it's just something to do with the engine.Cod2 had teh same problem with high ping times.

Also it wuld seem xtra have fixed the problematic router! At least for me,my pings is no down to under 100 on iconz. Also here's a tracert.

O no wait, pings are back up again.

It would seem, the minute this router at xtra gets more data,it fucks up.
At least this gives me some footing to now go start comp[laining to them,as it would seem,my pings to any servers in nz are around 50ms from 12 am to 8am and the rest of the time 200ms
And it affects my dl speed aswell,I was getting 450kbps from iconz at 8am,but now at 9something 30kbps

OK,just got off the phone with xtra, told them about the high pings, they keps trying to blame it on go large, but i kept telling em everyone on xtra plans have the same problem.Eventually she just excalated it as there's not much she can do when i tell her their global gateway router is messing around. She just said they'll call me in 4 days, but untill then i'm stuck with 150ms pings on most game servers and very low dl speeds.

15th November 2007, 11:44 AM
Woohoo said APE has always been the cause of these problems. Your ping to that global gateway router is the same at peak times from what you've shown.

I don't know why it has iconz at the start of the name, but I guess that's where your problem starts.

And xtra's response

"Thanks for your email about the performance of your broadband connection.

We have completed a thorough review of your connection and we did not identify any faults with it.

However, even though there is no fault with your connection, several other factors can affect its performance.

It is important to know when you use the Internet you are sharing it with other users. As a result, the time it takes for your computer to receive or send information will be affected during busy periods (ie evenings)

The Internet is an international network so some of the factors that affect your overall broadband experience are outside our control. For example some websites limit the speed at which they send out information and sites that are further away (i.e. overseas) can be slower to download than sites hosted in New Zealand."

Well that generic response shows their attitide to customer service! :anger:
I tell them waht's wrong, they tell me to send them speedtest results,i tell them it's pointless, but they tell em to do it and now this, which proves my point. Shows you the bunch of complete nobs for brains they have working there. Now what... :disappoin

Advise them it needs to be referred to a higher tier help desk operator. I guess the lower ones job is to fob you off.

I had all of these problems and they came right and then 6 weeks later I got an email answering my query. Same BS as you and blaming Go large which I was not on, more Emails and asking for Download speeds and finally asking for traceroutes even though the problem came right 5 weeks early. 2 month refund anyway.

They are required to make a reasonable attempt to fix you problem and so keep reminding them of this.

There is an obvious way of avoiding the peer exchange while gaming on Iconz, with the benefit of some customer service...
