View Full Version : COD4 Beta impressions

Post your impressions on the COD4 beta here.
Ok here are my impressions:
The game is fucking awesome!
You can create your own kits and choose any weapon you want (provided you have it unlocked) and customize it. There are abilities you can unlock as well, such as increased length of sprint, being able to take more damage and having better hip fire accuracy. Also, if you get a 3 kill streak, you will be able to call in a UAV for your team, 5 gets you an air strike and 7 gets you a helicopter controlled by AI that has missiles and a machine gun, it's pretty easy to take down but you can get tons of kills with it.
The RPG is available for the Demolition class and you can also get it with any weapon in the kit customization menu. You can have up to 6(?) custom kits i think, each one you can have whatever you want, they are not restricted AT ALL, provided you have it unlocked. Grenades are also customizable, you can choose between Smoke, flashbang and Stun grenades. I'm currently using an AK 47 with an RPG and Smoke grenades.
COD4 still retains that COD feel, but with modern weaponry and equipment. It is a MUST BUY for Xbox 360 and PC Users. The graphics are awesome as well, with superb lighting and weapon skins.

just a copy paste from sila.net.nz
Been playing for the last 5 hours.
After about 2 hours of all NZ games (no lag - is lame on US servers) I can conclude it's a fucking awesome game, a 3 bullet burst will down someone if it's a clean hit in the chest/head.
UAV is awesome, its like BF2, but slower, and it doesn't track live, works like a real radar, as it sweeps the mini map you see a stationary icon of where the enemy is, also when the enemy fires there weapon (if it's unsilenced) a stationary icon of where the enemy is also appears.
There are heaps of different perks, one of which is a UAV jammer, so you cant be seen by radar at all.
The beta is restricted to 12v12, one of the maps is very small, so it can be pretty full on if everyone has there RPG rockets out zooming everywhere.
PC version with a mouse/keyboard will be awesome.
UAV itself works like thus:
If any member of any team gets three kills in a row without dieing, you can use UAV for your team, same goes for the enemy, so you have to 'earn' the UAV.
You can drop an air strike (you see the bombers fly past and carpet bomb) like a comm dropping arty in BF2 after 5 kills in a row.
If you manage to get 7 kills in a row you can call in a chopper, which hovers over the map and chainguns the FUCK out of anything in the open.
Heaps of different modes:
BF2 Style capture the point (with respawns)
CS style bomb plant (no respawns)
Team Deathmatch
All on All
Search and destroy (kill all enemy - no respawns)
are the ones I've played so far.
Create a class is the most epic thing about this game, you can create 6 custom classes and choose from easily over 20 guns, with different attachments to each gun, like scopes or silencers or Grenade launchers or Grips (accuracy/recoil).
Ontop of that you customise each class with Perks that you will have seen in the videos.
Win tbh, sila will be going hard if it's just as good on the PC.

Can still camp it up for the 3 kills and get the UAV tho.
Alexo256
7th September 2007, 09:43 PM
Camping isn't as effective compared to other FPS's. If you camp, you generally run out of ammo very quickly and unless you have the UAV jammer perk, snipers will easily get you, or just as easily, stun grenade then frag, or RPG. It's quite easy to take out campers tbh..

Unless it's FFA, it only shows up for you. FFA + 7 kill streak = lots and lots of kills. People are too busy killing each other to worry about the chopper you just sent in.

I'm bloody stocked UAV has to be earned rather than some magical devise one person on the team can control like BF2. Also being able to counter the UAV and being able to silence all the weapons is great,

Uzi with an AOG scope looks awesome. :D
EDIT: Oh, and if you have decent speakers, turn them up to the max while playing. It makes it sooo much better. The gun noises are fucking awesome, not to mention the jets from the air strike. Whenever you see the red jets appear on your compass, your heart starts racing, MUST GET INSIDE BUILDING!!!!!!!!

9th September 2007, 10:22 PM
mohaa was a pretty awesome game for its era i would put it higher than COD but only just bf2 isnt really in the same era (unless your talkin bout the new moha then i cannot rate it as i havnt played it)
and it is alot older than both 1942 came out about 2 years after mohaa and COD after that
Alexo256
9th September 2007, 11:09 PM
The first game was developed by DreamWorks Interactive (currently known as EA Los Angeles) and published by Electronic Arts in 1999 for the PlayStation game console.

It was the first ever fps I played. My uncle got it for my birthday when i was 7. :D
@Lolo - MOH is way more awesome than BF1942 and COD purely cause of it's originality and awesomness.

Halo 2? NEW?! It was released back in 2004 man, I think M$ used it to sell Vista.
BROX
12th September 2007, 11:54 PM
Halo 2 was cracked onto XP anyway, and was clearly a lame Vista sales ploy by M$ since it didn't even use DX10.
Looking forward to COD4, seen a few vids and they look pretty sweet so far. It'd be very surprising if a PC call of duty game was crap.

The 3 maps they have are medium in size. Nothing huge, but still playable. Enough room so that you don't end up running into the same guy in the same spot over and over and over. Plus there are 2-3 different was to get to each location so it's not likely you'll get pinned in either.
The perks definitely can be noticed. The extreme fitness perk lets you run for longer, the last stand perk is on of my fav's cause once you are shot, you fall to your back and pull out your pistol and you get about 10-15 seconds of life to get your revenge or take out a couple extra guys as they come running around the corner. There are several other perks that are good too. This game is without a doubt a 10/10 IMO. I love the fact that you earn UAV's, airstrikes, and helo support instead of having to ask your commander to send it in and hoping he is paying attention. I'm loving the beta, I just wish that we didn't get capped at lvl 16. GIMMIE MORE!!!:rnr:

That noob tube in one of the demos looks a bit over powered(wtf can't they do it like AA make it only arm if it travels within a certain distance) :disappoin
+ there is no way to lean so one can peek around corners :(
Hazard
25th September 2007, 07:42 PM
It does have to travel a set distance before it goes boom.
I've been sneaking around corners with it armed and seen someone rather close and pulled the trigger only have have it bounce away. The distance is a reasonable amount also (I'd say 10-15 "meters".
And it's definately not too powerful, to get a kill with it you have to land it right next to your target unless they are already pretty low on health.
