Obsidian Edge II
Obsidian Edge II: Theatre of War is the sequel to Obsidian Edge (modification developed for FarCry) and is to built using an official pre-software development kit (which will be available to the general public after the launch of Crysis).
Crytek are also offering a range of support to the development of the mod.
Project lead Soroc started creating modifications after seeing firsthand the ease of use of the FarCry Sandbox tool.
“When I saw the ease with which levels could be created with FarCry's Sandbox tool I was hooked”. This soon lead to the creation of new multiplayer levels and then the first beta of Obsidian Edge in February 2005. A full release came shortly after. While Obsidian Edge was a major success (with over 30,000 downloads). Soroc believes that it never reached mass market due to it’s late release. With work already commenced on Obsidian Edge II, a release date is projected to be within a 30-60 day window after the release of Crysis.
Obsidian Edge II: Theatre of War will again focus heavily on stealth and tactics. The player will be required to lead assaults on enemy held positions, seek out and eliminate hostiles, perform coordinated missions, and fight for their own survival. The mod will be focused around a squad-based experience – “we want to deliver a game that isn't a spawn/kill/die/respawn experience but rather a game where you have to employ every skill and strategy to defeat your human opponents”. Consequences of your game play and decisions play a big part in the game design also. While run & gun tactics may work at times often it will get you killed and jeopardize the rest of your team.
While many of the features from Obsidian Edge will remain – including "bullet-spin" (the physical reaction to getting hit by a round fired), limited ammunition and realistic cammo, several key features will be added to Obsidian Edge II including squad voice communications, a revised damage model that adds temporary and permanent damage features, Cooperative multiplayer game modes and a buddy/jerk system to allow you to find and avoid other players. Ten to fifteen maps will be included in the first release. Further features are also planned.
Ten multiplayer game types have been prioritized and will be released progressively. Modes that will likely return from Obsidian Edge are "Team Elimination" (called Last Man Standing), "Free-for-ALL" and "VIP Assassination" (VIP in Obsidian Edge). New modes will likely include "All Out War" - a large scale squad combat mode, "Demolitions Run" - an objective based small squad mode, "Escort" - a new twist on the VIP mode from Obsidian Edge, and "Defiance" - a small to large squad mode where one team has to defend a position while the other team attacks.
Ten singleplayer missions have been drawn up but are unlikely to appear in the first release.
Obsidian Edge II: Theatre of War is a modification that is officially supported by Crytek. Crytek will be putting a concerted effort into driving the development and supporting modification teams. They will be offering officially supported modifications help from the Crytek design team ensuring a high caliber of mods.

Navy SEALS: Covert Wars
It is one of three chosen Crysis modifications which will work with a pre-SDK. The goal is to release a quality mod that is ready as soon as Crysis hits the street.
“Tactical shooter meets Role Playing Game” The goal is to create a round-based tactical shooter that evokes unique and evolving deep tactical gameplay. The focus is on rewarding teamwork. NS:CO II is about the elite Navy SEALs fighting enemies or Tangos all around the world in realistic scenarios. To archive that it focus on the following main features:
* Easy start for casual gamers * Many advanced tactical possibilities for hardcore gamers * Ability system which evolves character stats and unlocks new weapons and equipment * Lots of real world weapons and equipment * Lots of different attachments for weapons * Character head customization * Advanced damage system * Interesting and fun game modes * A quick and easy to understand radio system with appropriated 3rd person hand signals
It is not determined yet what will be included in the first release. The project is under the patronage of Crytek. This means that development team offers professional design, working structures and development. This includes detailed help and support from Crytek design team members in order to push the quality to a very high standard. The pre-SDK is not available yet but we already looking ATM for people who would like to join the team and take this unique opportunity.
Command & Crysis: The Dead 6
RenEvo Software & Designs has been chosen as the third mod team chosen by Crytek to be given access to the Crysis Pre-SDK. Details of the mod are as follows:
The Dead 6 is an interactive extension of the Command & Conquer franchise. From the battlefield perspective you will get to experience, and change the fate of C&C as you know it.
In the single player campaign you will play each member of The Dead 6 on their final “death” missions which take place all over the world in “close to factual” theaters of war. Once completing the 6 members of the team, you will push the team into overdrive and enter into leading the 6 character team from any perspective. The possibilities and choices are almost limitless on how you can approach these campaigns.

Stepping Stones
Stepping Stones: Pacific Theatre is a Realism based mod that recreates the intense Pacific battles of WW2 fought between the Empire of Japan and the United States of America. SS:PT will utilize the incredible graphical and physical capabilities of Crytek's eagerly awaited "Crysis", using technologies such as Depth Of Field, Motion Blur and First Person Actor to take realism and immersiveness to a whole new level.
The core aim of the mod is to provide a gritty, intense and highly immersive experience for the player, we plan to do this by making every aspect of the mod as realistic as possible without ditching the fun aspect of the mod. We want to put the player in the combat boots of a United States or Japanese soldier fighting for his country (and his own life!) in the Pacific Theatre of World War 2. There will be a large emphasis on squadplay in this mod as well, we won't force you to stick with a squad but we plan to make enough advantages for doing so that the player will prefer squadplay to lonewolf combat. We plan to make this a thinking man's first person shooter so Rambo methods will usually just get you killed, and fast(unless you're just really really good).
SS:PT will feature many of the Pacific's most famous and action packed battles in addition to the critical smaller battles that occured in relative secrecy. SS:PT will include different weather conditions including nighttime, thunderstorms, and sunny days in addition to other environmental effects such as fire and smoke to make your experience as a soldier as thrilling and authentic as possible. All vehicles, weapons and locations will be highly detailed and historially accurate to when they actually occured. Currently the SS:PT team have most of the gameplay aspects of the game pre-planned and are waiting for the SDK and Crysis to be released before they can start full production!
