Punkbuster

My room mate bought the game after seeing me play, but he keeps getting kicked by punkbuster. He definitely does not have any hacks!

I've updated punkbuster automatically, and manually (step by step, as per their website), and done a fresh install of bf2142. All to no avail.

Has anyone had this problem and overcome it in any way other than what I've listed, or know of a way to overcome it.

do you get a particular punkbuster reason for the kick?

No, no reason at all, just "You have been kicked by punkbuster" or something along those lines.

I've read on a few forums where people are having this problem, but have had no success fixing it with the replies they got.

Have you forwarded any ports on your router to just your computer?

No, I don't know anything about port forwarding so I don't mess with them.

But if you think I need to do it, I'll have to figure out how.

AFAIK port forwarding will not help in your case, as only one program can use a forwarded port at any one time. (Presuming you and your roomate are using the same router)

Yeah i was thinking that maybe all the punkbuster traffic was being forwarded to one pc, but if you haven't set it up then I am all out of ideas....

To help pin point the problem try this:

While in game Drop down the console and type in "PB_WriteCfg 1"
then type in "PB_LogToFile 1"
and next time he gets kicked go to:
x:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\pb
look for file called "pbcl.log" open it up and look for errors.

This is in the file names "1"

The pbcl.log file just says

Theres 2 PBCL files one is a ".cfg" the other is ".log" look in the ".log" one.

That one was the .cfg

It was definitely the .log file.

There is a database file ".db"

Nothing has changed, the messages in the files are still the same.

It makes no sense, its a fresh install ffs, why would punkbuster be having problems?

Actually on saturday night i was at a mates house and he was losing ea master server connection all the time but my puter dropped only a couple of times, settled down a bit later and as far as i know he is not having the problems at all with only his computer on

So I should turn off all other networked PCs and try that.

Its a bold strategy, lets see if it pays off!

On the news ticker on the 2142 menu (bottom of screen) it said basically that they are aware of people having problems with punkbuster kicks and are working to sort it out. So perhaps if you aren't getting a error message, you are one of the people caught up with random kicks.

I've contacted EA support about it, cause its getting a bit annoying now :P

It will be interesting to see how long it takes, cause it gives you a message that they have recieved heaps of queries and that it will take some time to get throught them, and to be patient.

I never thought I'd say that I like CSS's VAC! At least I haven't had these sort of problems with it :(

I got a reply from them about a voip issue with onboard sound in bf2...it did take three weeks tho :disappoin

Tried the PB update, didn't work

Try deleting all files in the PB folder then run the pb set up.

Get admin to do IP check on your key.

Nah, no ones been near my cdkey. I installed the game, then made an image and put the disk away in a safe place.

Appears to just be a server. Ive jumped onto other iconz servers since and not been kicked after pb has done the checking
