This game is already giving me the shits, and I can't even load it yet!

I put the disc in, install all it all, then it tells me to insert the disc to start playing!!! THE DISC IS ALREADY IN THERE!!!

*Breathe*

Does anyone know why it would do this? First it ouldn't let me create a member name until I put some gibberish in as my member name, then it won't even recognise its on disc!

Any help would be good, thanks

Maybe it doesn't like emulation software like Nero, Daemon Tools, etc?
Been a few games like that lately

If you can get the exact error message that would be good.

Exact message is

"Please ensure Battlefield 2142 Install Disc is in the drive, select OK and restart the application"

I've installed the new patch and restarted my pc....GRRRR!!!

Even after the patch, for many members of the community, including myself, who have been experiencing crashes, there is a solution that may fix it. In the readme file attached with Battlefield 2142 you'll notice it saying:

"Players who have the Windows security update KB917422 installed may suffer from an application error when running Battlefield 2142. This error can be solved by uninstalling the KB917422 update."

If you head on over and look at Microsoft's website you'll notice what this specific security update does:

"A security issue has been identified in the Windows Kernel that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it."

Fear not, you won't have to uninstall the Windows security update. Microsoft has posted up a hotfix for this update. Here's what the update has to say about explaining the issue:

"After you apply security update 917422, programs that limit the application stack size to 2,048 bytes might not run. You do not receive any error message when this problem occurs."

I'm stumped. I've updated the game, i've updated the microsoft security update to the "working" one, still nothing.

I haven't reinstalled it yet, I am about to try that, fingers crossed.

I have had this problem before with FEAR, but it only happened sometimes, this seems to be more permanent. Again, if there is anyone who can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

I managed to connect to a game this morning, I played for about 2 minutes before it said I had connection problems.

But a step in the right direction at least. It looks like it will run alright on my PC aswell, which is a surprise, I thought I'd struggle.

I reinstalled it, let it install in its default file path, installed the gamespy thing, done there survey, and anything else it wanted me to do, and it worked. I'm guessing maybe it didn't like a new file path or something.
