...About customising kits. Is it possible to save configurations? IE. Can I save 5 of my favourite Recon configs, so I can just select one off a list, rather than having to select what gear I want to take in every time?

it must be a client side confile anyway arny.
user specific, saved for session, sends a configuration to a server 4 interaction

Oh noes...will we see haxors - with less than 1 hour gaming - with a nice shiny pieces of weps kit that they will pull out whenever they want?

i doubt you call it haxing L2. its more like client side custom files, like key bindings.
2142 will still have all of the current pb limitations.
having said that, I'm sure the hardcore will be testing their old custom work to see how much of it is reusable.
while legit players are racing to points, exploits, unlocks, weps and tutorial content, the others will be poking and proding to see what still works.

That's not really answering my question Jack, and L2, there is no way that can be a hax or we would have seen it in BF2.
I'll clarify.
What I want is to be able to create my perfect Recon loadout, and then save that configuration, so I can select "Arny's Pirate Rape Kit" rather than selecting each piece of kit individually. Preferably I'd want 2 or 3 of these for each kit.
As to the idea of it being a user side confile. What? If you could use a confile to tell the server what your loadout would be sweet, but when the server detects that =ISF= Arnifix hasn't earned the Omegawankotrongun it would (logically) deny me that and instead give me the "default" bit of kit.

I haven't seen anything like that so far, but it only takes a few seconds to setup unlocks once you have them anyway. :p maybe they'll add it if theres demand..
as for what L2 said about the config
didn't you used to be able to change the unlocks in the config to "1, 1, 1, 1, 1" isntead of 0's and you'd have the unlocks (PB enabled and not. :P) stopped with 1.2 patch? maybe before.. ;x i really don't remember. :o
EDIT::
Unlock Special Weapons (Version 1.0.0 only)
Locate the file "unlocks.py" located in <Drive Letter>Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\python\bf2\stats (or whereever you installed Battlefield 2, in the folders \python\bf2\stats), and open "unlocks.py" with Notepad.
(Before you open unlocks.py, you should make a backup of the file "unlocks.py" (just copy and paste the file) and rename the file to unlocks1.py)
Now you should see a whole bunch of codes. Press CTRL+F and find the word "defaultunlocks" (without the quotations).
this should highlight the line of code
defaultUnlocks = [0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0]
change all the "0"s to "1"s, so it looks like
defaultUnlocks = [1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1]
and now press CTRL+S to save.
Note: this only works for single player, this trick works for multiplayer, however, EA Games will ban your CD-Key for a week if they discover you are using this for multiplayer. So just replace the unaltered backup file of "unlocks.py" for multiplayer and vice versa.

That's not really answering my question Jack,

take the example of bf2 now, you can alter the client confiles to hold a key bindings, audio and gpu setting as well as names and prefix.
as you save changes via the UI it updates and save a version to your machine. when you join at teh account server it updates some of those details and others it does on the fly cose its client side.
now i dont know if 2142 will do multiple customised weps kits and store them - maybe someone who's involved in the beta could say. but given that its a client option to create and save a custimsed wepn kit, it must be updating a client config file. which i assume means a confile exists to hold and be edited from time to time by the client.
that means copys and edits are possible. ur senario runs like edit file, save changes, copy file to other location, make changes, save changes - copy paste and save new file same name
