From the beginning, the Battlefield series has always delivered on the traditional core FPS experience with fast action and instant gratification with play-by-play rewards. However, in Battlefield 2 DICE looked to broaden the experience with the introduction of extensive statistics, unlockable assets and awards earned over time. The community has really latched on to the persistence in BF2 -- so much so that it's really influencing the way we're thinking about the entire franchise as a studio. And right now, we're working on taking the concept of persistence to a new level with Battlefield 2142.
Our first step in mapping out the new persistence system for BF2142 was to look at the features that worked really well in BF2 and expand upon them.
The rank system introduced in BF2 is an excellent method to show players how they progress and improve their skills on the Battlefield. When gamers learn to play the game more efficiently and use the equipment available in the best possible way, the game rewards them with a higher score at the end of the round. While this is a good system, we felt that being promoted should be something special in BF2142, and more than just getting a new title. This time we're combining unlocks and ranks allowing us to always reward a promotion with an unlock.

They must be talking about things like server crashes and red/blue bug, they got those features working so well they can't even figure out how to get rid of them.

The river of hype is coming....another FUBAR heads our way - Ive lost faith in Dice/EA...
However will try and reserve judgement until 1.4 is released...
However to leave customers with servers crashing is crap..there should be some recognition of what the player base has had to put up with
Taunting dance for veterans - yeah right - shows how they think of their customers
The most BS idea I have ever heard of .....
I think we should all roll back our patches to the first one and play the game in that state...no crashes great blackhawks etc..cool fun...
Im sick of 1.3 and by now most custys would have left for another supplier...
Frustration unfortunately sets in.....rollback of patch by all of us would be cool ...
The only plus of late POE and less crashes...

I personally am getting sick of ppl coming into the bf2142 forum to whinge about it...if you are not interested then don't post, as for the continued talk about 1.3 and 1.4 we have all heard about it before...just put it down.
Goddamn it ppl, I am looking forward to 2142, i don't expect it to be perfect, I don't expect anything to be perfect.
Hell if you want to complain about something worthwhile, try petrol prices or inflation or house prices because these have a real life effect. Its a game made by people who are trying to make a living, they have supported it far longer than any other game i know of, console games come out once with bugs and they are unpatchable and ppl deal with that.
If you do not enjoy bf2 then don't play it and stop telling us about it.

TBAGG or Charging, CLEAR!
We as players all over the world started doing this, it has been seen in the servers and they have responded, its our own fault. How many noobs and non clanners do you see tbagging?

No, reality and fact.
EA say there will be a war dance *************An exclusive war dance animation that you can use in-game to taunt/pwn other players (http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/editorial.jsp?src=veterans)
They U-turn on this - the sole reason (apart from the trees) that I was going to buy the game. BerG calls them on it and all you have is "Negativity ppl, take it else where" pfft.

Seriously? You must be nuts!
So you'd buy a dvd that didn't play properly, or see a movie that has scenes missing, buy a book with pages ripped out of it or buy some milk that is slightly off? Anything that you are paying money for should do what it is designed to do PERFECTLY! We even have laws in NZ that protect us if something doesn't live up to what it's meant to do.

People seem to have the idea that software should run perfectly on all systems worldwide.
Yes it sucks that we have to live with bugs in the games - but come on!! Name one, just one piece of software that is 100% bug free for EVERYONE?
People here are going to buy BF2142, I am one of the them. And these people are looking forward to it. How the hell is that a problem for you?
Here's an example - I HATE World of Warcraft. Biggest heap of crap game on the planet. That is my opinion - but I don't go to WoW forums and say what I heap of shit it is. Hell, this is the first time I've ever mentioned it. And why is this? Because I know there are heaps of people out there that do enjoy it and do feel they get their moneys worth, and they have the right to enjoy it without people telling them they are "retards" or "idiots", etc.
BF2142 is the same - people are going to get it and get their moneys worth. No amount of BF2142 bashing, calling the people idiots, etc is going to change that.
It has been said several times here before, if are not interesting in BF2142, don't come here with the purpose of dissing it and the players that are going to get it. I mean really, what does it acheive?

I'm interested in it, that's why I keep coming back to these discussions. If this forum was for fanboys only then it wouldn't be very interesting, nothing wrong with a bit of debate to keep it going.
I know what you're saying about software not being perfect, but you've got to admit that BF2 has some pretty big flaws. Of all the other games I play it's got to be the worst in this department.

It's comments like this:
"Seriously? You must be nuts!" in reply to someone saying he doesn't expect it to be perfect that I find totally pointless. How is this providing good debate? Or anything worthwhile to be honest?
Yeah there are a lot of bugs in BF2, personally I think a lot of them should have been dealt with a lot faster than they are. But that's the way things are unfortunately.
As for the worst? Far from it for me. BF2 is still playable for the most part. Yeah, the servers crash, but you're back up and gaming in about 1 minute and all that has changed is your rage levels. To be honest, I get the Red/Blue very rarely, other bugs? Hardly ever. Now take FEAR for example - I can't even play that. Get about 3 minutes into a game and it freezes my system completely. I have to press the reset button and reboot the system to get back. Now this is a problem for a lot of people with FEAR. What is being done about it? Well they have tried to fix it in the last 2 patches and it's still doing it.
IMO the bug with FEAR is far worse as it makes the game totally unplayable.
Looking at other games, I find just as much bugs, if not more. Why is it we notice bugs in BF2 so much? Probably because we spend more time playing it. I have over 500 hours of BF2 time, so I'm sure a lot more likely to come across bugs in it than say NFS Most Wanted, where I only clocked up maybe 20 hours.

Not really, but it's not like it would change much. You'd get pissed off for sure. But you don't have to hard boot your system, you haven't really lost anything other than some time.
I'm not saying the crashing is ok - I think EA need a kick in the ass for letting it go this long without fixing it - all I'm saying is that it doesn't do you any personal harm, it doesn't lock your system up, it's just a pain in the arse.

indeed, an entire competition with over 100 teams has been on hold for MONTHS now because of stability in the last patch. (GameArena Ladder).
In preparation for xlan sila booked a practise server on Xtra, and a backup Gamearena server. Each time we would join the server, it would crash, xtra or GA. whether we all
piled on, or tried joining one at a time.
Hazard, theres no defending the poor state battlefield 2 is currently in,
sure every bit of software has bugs, but not to the level battlefield 2 has currently.
I can load up ANY other game i own and play it for hours on end if i choose,

Turn off hax before joining server... we had a friendly vs ARK a couple of weeks back, every time a particular ARK player joined the server (both GA & Xtra) the server would curdle itself. Actually would be interested to find out about server stability under POE2, is there a connection between ranked & crashing ?

i'd say there is no connection if its practise servers (which are unranked) are crashing also?
LAN games are sweet however, its only net related

My beef is I was sold half the promised product in BF2. Clan tagged uniforms, bftv, laser designation.........then we have the poor support to correct the problems, poor beta testing of the original release and then the following patches.
Now we have BF2142, basically the same engine, same bugs are in it, some of what they promise now was promised with BF2 but never eventuated, now we see they are already cutting back on what was promised again. Then we can only expect the support will be no better than what we have had with BF2.
As for posting in this part of the forum..........last time I looked it was an open forum. Are we going to lock forums based on whether you have pre-ordered now? Shit we still allow convicted hackers to post in here
As for my post above about "the good features of BF2", the ones they are harping on about caused some of the problems. The stats system has created the host of tards we have now, spawn raping, carrier raping, stat padding, lack of teamwork, selfishness......the list goes on. This forum would sure get boring if there is no opposing argument

dude cutting happens in every game. and you were not sold half promised product you were sold the whole thing! Does it say anywhere on the box Clan tagged uniforms, bftv, laser designation.........? No it doesnt!
Sure bf2142 is same engine but ETQW also uses same engine as doom which is even older and wasnt even used for huge environments (like to see how it handles) and im sure ive seen u rooting for that game.
As for u last part that happens in any game. ANY multiplayer game u play there will be someone trying to be better than everyone else. Its human nature.

Yes I understand cutting happens, but some of the key features they promoted at expo's and to us in interviews got axed. Some of which we were told would be in following patches but it never happened.
Yeah and as I responded to that in the BF2 forum, other engines at least worked a hell of a lot better than what this one has. Yes I was rooting for ETQW, but it wont be me as the more i think about it the less i like the futuristic style as with BF2142
Yes every game people try to be the best, if you were around during BF1942 and BFV this was never an issue till stats and BF2 came along. BF2 and stats has brought out the worst in some of the respected players from the previous BF titles

What if the book randomly closed itself and made you lose your page? Sure, it just wastes a little time and you'll be reading your book like nothing happened again in a few minutes, but it'll get pretty annoying when it does it several times within an hour.

Not fixing the game for now nearly 4 months is fn terrible, 99% of bf2 players out there want a hotfix asap not have to wait around months on end for extra content&bugfix. Nah dice deserves to be run down for treating its customers so badly(dice is taking a pounding on the ea forums right now and rightly so for being so greedy and slack).
It doesn't matter about other games being more buggy, all game developers should be critised for releasing buggy trash like 1.3.
Dice has to win the award this year for the worse ever game patch and doing sfa to fix it fast :P.
